Googled the description for Edge of Seventeen (wondered if it had anything to do with the great Fleetwood Mac song)....

Everyone knows that growing up is hard, and life is no easier for high school junior Nadine (Hailee Steinfeld), who is already at peak awkwardness

Yikes, since when do we make GDT's about MTV awards?

This isn't a GDT. I don't plan on finding a stream for this and MTV is no longer on free cable over here (and was total **** when it was). This is just for the laughs, everyone can vote on their site and most of the winners are easily predictable by knowing/guessing the fan base. They've usually provided some funny parodies though.

I would say MTV jumped shark in 99 or so

It was around then that Total Request Live stopped showing full video's and morning video's became less and less frequent

That is when MTV started to really move into reality TV channel and expand beyond simple Real World/Road World reality

I really liked edge of seventeen and wish it got more love than it did.

It looks like it's going for as much credibility as the Teen Choice Awards, but for a slightly older demographic. Maybe they should rename it the MTV Millennial Choice Awards.

Wait... there's an award for Best Kiss?

That's been there since the beginning probably. I think Jim Carrey won it one time.

Pretty sure Spider-Man and Mary-Jane won for Best Kiss way back when.

I mean, this show has always been a goof so I'm not sure why now it has jumped the shark as opposed to any other year.

That is pretty terrible. I like GoT but Emilia Clarke is terrible at acting. You know these awards are bad when a show like Pretty Little Liars is on there.

Not only that but putting tv vs movies in some categories. Some of the nominees are indeed questionable, like the exclusion of the ending of Logan from the Tearjerker category. *can't find an appropriate smiley for this*

MTV in my day used to be music videos and Beavis and Butthead, unbiased takes on the news and Celebrity Deathmatch. Growing up in the country I remember I was around 11 and those nifty mini dishes came out and we were among the first to get one, having people over every day to watch MTV.

Now it's shows about how screwed up teenagers are and how hard they have it (they are, and they don't), E-list celebrities and their 'hilarious families'! (Imo it was 'The Osbournes' Where they jumped the shark), and of course the endless virtue signalling...everyone these days all about letting people know how tolerant and not racist they are.

Kinda sad really...seeing something that was once edgy and anti-establishment become 'The man'...
