I read the thread and thought Washington was a lottery team.
Then I opened the NHL standings and saw that the Caps are 1st in the league.

At least Ovi got his goal.

Brad Marchand - 29 GP - 7+9=16 -13
Patrice Bergeron - 47 GP - 12+26=38 -13

Habs are a much tougher opponent for the Capitals than the Bruins. Habs almost everytime somehow play better against the Capitals whereas the Bruins fold the game before the puck drops. Capitals own the TD Garden and i don't think they have lost there since the days of Adam Oates.

I think it’s good to have losses like this. They started out hot, a few great saves by price, and the caps never got on track. That’s great coachable material. You can’t win every game.

Maybe just a coincidence, but it seems after Ovechkin hurts a guy (cleanly) the team just falls apart. After Ovechkin KO'd Svechnikov he seemed totally lost in feeling guilty and wasn't playing well at all. The team took its cue from the captain and we got murdered.

How?

They got an odd-man rush from that hit and i don't know what happened there exactly. Carlson (?) was over-passing but Backstrom completely stopped playing and turned towards a corner when he could have had an empty net. Ovechkin shouldn't be faulted for that as his massive hit generated them a Grade A scoring chance.

But did they really fall apart after that? Habs dominated in the first and had 15 shots and dominated the scoring chances too.

Naw. Svech was Russian. Ovie felt bad for KOing him.
