how can people honestly say this is a no risk deal. he was absolutely putrid outside of Montreal last year and has shown he can be less than useless, yeah i get he is just a backup and can be replaced but if price goes down and they only have Niemi and Lindgren there is tons of risk in that.
His contract is so cheap and short that the risk is minimal

I think that's it's a good insurance for them... Lindgren doesnt seem quite ready, it gives them a decent plus cheap backup for now

Might be an issue if we were actually expecting the team to be good...

What other move do you think would change that fact?

Montreal can't be expected to have Price for 10 million, and still sign a capable 1B goalie that can start for stretches. Especially when Niemi actually did start for stretches last season and did fine! Price/Niemi/Lindgren is great G depth. The only risk here is delaying NHL experience for Lindgren.

Cheap, effective, and smart signing.

Price (2017-2018):

GP: 49
total saves: 1339
prorated saves per 82 GP: 2240

Niemi (2017-2018):

GP: 19
total saves: 550
prorated saves per 82 GP: 2373

Using (2018-2019) salaries and (2017-2018) stats:

Price gets paid $4687.50 to make a save.
Niemi gets paid $400.00 to make that same save.

DISCLAIMER: I know there are million factors that make this comparison terrible, relax I know Price > Niemi

I'm fine with this as long as he goes back to his horrible self.

No risk move on a guy who was actually pretty solid playing behind a tire fire. Nothing to complain about here.

He may have cost the team a 2nd overall pick. It was really upsetting at one point, I thought for sure we would end up 7-8th.
