Does anyone mind if I bump this thread to reflect this update? There are now 40 series that have gone into OT of the last possible game, and Dale Hunter is still the only guy to score two such OT goals.

Oddly enough, there has been such a series in four of the last five years, and all four have involved Boston.

You are missing Alex Burrows in 2011 (Canucks vs. Blackhawks).

Wow, a lot of current Bruins players
have played in four Game 7 OTs. I wonder if any other players have played in four. The Islanders were in four deciding game OTs from 1975-1982 but I think some of those were best-of-five series.

Not only that, but all four of them have been in Boston. Seeing that list really blew my mind since I've attended those four Boston games.

Since one of Dale Hunter's goals was in game 5 for Quebec in a best of five, I guess we're still waiting for the first two-time game 7 OT scorer. Lupul or Horton could have done it last night.

p.s. Bee, the score last night was 5-4; it's on there as 4-3.

I have nearly everything as 4-3, only because I was going for the series score rather than the game score. I'm about to make an update to change that though.

You are missing Alex Burrows in 2011 (Canucks vs. Blackhawks).

Indeed I am...it'll be changed in a minute.

Brodeur stunk in the 2001 playoff in general - if the Devils had won the Cup that year, it would have been a very "Osgood in 1998" kind of win. But he was great in all the Cup wins - top 3 on the team in terms of importance in 1995, top 5 in 2000, top 2 in 2003 - overall the 2nd most important playoff performer on the minidynasty after Scott Stevens.

Osgood in 1998 was far better than Brodeur in 2001. He may have had the occasional flub, but he had a very strong run and provided Cup-caliber goaltending.

There's a case to be made for Brodeur preventing ~0.5 to 1 shots per game. Just as a quick and dirty method, the Devils' backups over the last ten seasons have faced 27.1 shots/game, while Brodeur has faced 26.0 shots/game. This is a little skewed because the majority (5453 of 8381) of the minutes faced by the backups have occurred in the last three years, when the Devils have allowed more shots against per game, but it shows that there's clearly no massive prevention effect.

A better method might be to use the average shots per game of the backups' opponents, and then do the same for Brodeur to see if there is a significant difference. At that point we have a baseline of QoC, and can attempt to discern how well Brodeur limited shots against.

Wow, I'm going to have to bookmark this thread for Bee's post with the YouTube links. Never seen that 1984 NYI-NYR OT until just now. If that's not the gold standard, it's pretty close.
