Timo Meier gets the nod from me. Hertl's point totals have gone up, but I'd attribute that for his ability to drive the play finally being rewarded.

Jake Vrana and Brett Connolly had nearly identical improvements this past year, Jake is younger so its more promising but Brett made his jump playing almost exclusively on the 3rd line.

Jake 2017 73GP 13G 14A 27P +2
Jake 2018 82GP 24G 23A 47P +20

Brett 2017 70GP 15G 12A 27P -6
Brett 2018 81GP 22G 24A 46P +13

And then there is Tom Wilson, whose breakout shook HF boards to its foundation :D

Came here to say Jakub Vrana and I think he's going to have a BIG postseason.

Imo Trouba really stepped up this year when our d-core was ravaged by injuries. I hope neither his side or the organization **** up offseason negotiations, as much as HFJets users lynch him and continue to call for Chevy to trade him we need him.

Jacob Markstrom without a doubt entering this year I was thinking could be anyone’s job in net but he stepped up big time a very pleasant surprise. Also Gaudette had some good improvement and Goldy at times looked very good.

Not sure Minnesota even has one. Everyone regressed or flatlined. Parish would probably be the best answer. Dumba was on pace for 30 goals before he was hurt.

Erik Gustafsson probably the most improved player in the entire league

Goes from scoring 16 pts last season and not even starting the season as a regular in the lineup to ending the season with 60 pts, top 6 among NHL defenseman. Also 17 goals.

Kyle Connor and Branden Tanev impressed me on the Jets and Morgan Rielly and Mitch Marner both had break-out seasons on the Leafs.

The answer absolutely is Cirelli for TB, but he's not a 30/50 guy at all.

I think 20/35 is more likely, while being a big shorthanded threat and top PK player.

Ryan Johansen for sure. Greasy bastard of course makes 1/3 of the JOFA line but he really became the line for a majority of the season especially with assists.

Kapanen? Marner did go up a ton in points, but everyone knew with Tavares his assists would skyrocket (his goals only went up by 4.)

For Colorado, JT Compher is the one who improved the most from the end of last season to this point this season. Though he hit a wall down the stretch, he was a very good, borderline 2nd liner and elite 3rd line quality player for us the majority of the season.

Tyson Jost and Sam Girard are two others who really struggled to start the season, but got better as it went on and especially in the last 10-15 games were much better. Jost looked like a legit NHL forward while Girard actually started showing signs of being a legit #2/3 Dman.

For NYR.
Improved:
Zinbadejad performed as his best for a whole season, not just a 1/3 of it. Even more impressing as his line mates where traded away or hurt during the season, but he kept his production,

Deangelo is starting to understand the d-zone much better, and his offensive instincts are top notch. Comparedto the other "fling it around the glass out to be stopped at the blue line" d-men we have, he is by far the best d-man (or only) that can make the puck
go the other way.

Dissapointments:
Jimmy Vesey. Still only does 1 thing good at the NHL level, and that is taking the puck to the net. Looks like what we got out of college was what he was in the end. His production was inline with his 2 first seasons, even with added play time and on a higher line.

Neal Poink. Was looking interesting last year, but had no real progress this year. Can skate, and had unreal luck to get PP points at the start of the season. Bu he is to weak, no idea what to do with the puck if he get it in his own zone, and not the best defensive reads.
Still young as a D-man, but it does not look like there is much untapped potential in him. Should be a decent bottom pairing d-man, abut he was played way above his level this year
