Most Happy/Disappointed You've Been for a Bruins Off-Ice Event

Posted this in the NHL forum, but wanted to specifically see Bruins fans answers to this as well.

For most excited, it can be a trade, signing, draft pick, draft lottery, a player being named to an Olympic team, a player earning an individual award, etc., etc.

For most disappointed, it can be all of the above, only with a negative reaction. Some might want to list an off-ice incident regarding a player on your team as well.

For the Bruins:

Happy

- Bergeron winning the Selke: I thought this was long overdue and it was really nice to finally see him recognized.

- 2010 Draft Lottery: There was a clear top two for the 2010 draft, so it was really nerve-racking watching that lottery. When, the Panthers came up at #3 it was really exciting to know that the Bruins would be getting one of Seguin or Hall, and still had playoff hopes for that year as well.

- Chara and Savard sign in Boston on the same day: I had been gone the whole day and came back to check the ticker to see where the big names signed. I had to watch it come and go several times before I believed that the Bruins inked not one but two of the biggest names on the market.

Disappointed

- The hunt for a top center coming back from the 2004/05 lockout: First Forsberg was strongly linked to Boston, but ended up choosing the Flyers; then Modano was even more strongly linked to Boston, but he re-upped with Dallas. Option C: Alexei Zhamnov. I had a bad feeling about that one from the very start.

- Thornton trade: I was more shocked than anything. It started off with me looking for a silver lining that at least Marleau would be coming to Boston as they hadn't announced what Boston would be getting back when the story broke, but alas that wasn't the case.

- Iginla Trade Backfire: It was awesome tracking that story that night. Iginla got scratched so you knew a trade was coming, then Bartkowski and Khokhlachev were pulled from the Providence line-up so all signs pointed to Boston, and then it finally came to fruition and I went to bed thinking Iginla was a Bruin. Woke up the next morning, checked to see some more talk/analysis of the trade, and everything was turned upside down.

The Espo trade...going not coming. The Brian Bellows sweepstakes resulting in Kluzak and Palmer coming and Bellows going. The Mike Sullivan snub by Chiarelli. Departures of Allison and Guerin. Wesley and not Shanahan. Ryder instead of Hossa. Firing of Don Cherry. And the Grand Daddy of them all-Release of Bobby Orr.

I still remember the day Savard signed an extension to play the rest of his career here at a ridiculously cap friendly number.

Sigh.

 I remember that day too. I told Savvy "thanks" at the next game.

I feel ripped off because he is gone. Marc was so much fun to watch.

The day they removed the Eddy's ice cream machine and went with gelato...I'd rather have that come back than win a second Cup

Happy - the night Ray took the shirt off his back.

Sad- the day Bobby left for Chicago.

Those might be the ones for me as well.
The first - As I've said before, pure hockey fan porn.

The latter - I knew in my heart that #4 was just about done as a player, but I still nearly cried.

Happy:

Chara, since nobody saw it coming. Everyone thought he was going to Los Angeles, IIRC we just came out of nowhere and signed him.

Thornton trade. Sorry, I just hated the bum and was glad we dumped him.

Sergei Gonchar (This will totally put us over the top!11!1!!)

Any trade with the Maple Leafs from 2006-2011. Especially the Rask deal, we all knew it was a total robbery at the time.

Disappointed:

Manny Fernandez. Everyone here was doing cartwheels but I was saying we should've let Thomas be the #1 and saved our resources for something better. Looks like I was right.

Horton trade. Thought it was too much for a Sunrise floater. Looks like I was wrong.

Benoit Pouliot signing...it was almost comical at that point with Chiarelli and former Hab rejects.

I forgot to mention for happiest moments, the Mike O'Connell and Harry Sinden firing day. That must be what it felt like for an East German when the Berlin Wall fell down.

Disappointed -

Thornton trade. Not so much that he was traded but that they got absolutely jack **** for him. I liked Sturm but not for a friggin Hall of Famer entering his prime. That one looked bad from the second it was announced and hasn't gotten any better to me. Yeah, it freed up money, blah blah. Get some draft picks out of it then.

Iginla making the wrong decision. I felt the Bruins had the Cup in their hands and he took it away from them...and himself. Who knows if they still would have lost but I'd take him over Jagr and Horton doesn't get injured fighting him.

Happy -

The Bruins picking top 2 in 2010 and then somehow having Hamilton fall in their laps in 2011.

Savard getting his name on the Cup. I don't think that was a given if I remember correctly.

Pissed off:

Thornton trade by far for me.

Juneau for Iafrate

Letting Khristich walk

Iggy rejecting Beantown - Never experienced anything like that before. All media reporting he was a Bruin going to bed waking up and seeing Iggy's face in front of the Penguins Logo - WTF!

Allison / Eloranta for Murray Stumpel - even though Murray did turn into a beast for the B's.

Perpetual snub by Selanne. Forever linked in Bruins rumours (UFA signing etc). Bruins had long pursued him to no avail. Would have loved to have seen him in a Bruins uniform.

Jubilation:

Bruins getting the 2nd overall pick in the draft lottery. (2010)

Chara/Savard Signing - renewed my faith in this organization, when I thought I was done.

Trading for Gonchar and Nylander. I truly thought this would put us over the top. Punched a hole through my wall when they lost to the Habs.

Oates Trade. Not often have we seen the Bruins trade for a bonafide superstar.

Drafting Thornton - they were touting him as the next Lemieux.

Ranford back to Boston. Thought he would be the saviour to end the goalie carousel.

Getting Jim Carey - See Above.

O'Connell Fired.

I don't remember Selanne being linked to the B's. I remember a lot of talk about Roenick when he eventually signed in Philly, since he was a local boy, and I remember the post-lockout FA frenzy when ****ing Modano jerked us around before going back to Dallas at the last minute, leaving us with no one but Alex Zhamnov to fall back on as a backup plan for 2nd line center.

Happy -
Neely coming back to the game via management.

Neely to the HHOF.

Scoring Chara and Savard in one day.

TT winning the Vezina.

Bergy getting the Selke.

Oates for Janney. (loved Janney, but knew Oates was a step up)

Disappoint -
Normand Leveille's diagnosis.

Neely retiring at age 31.

Bourque leaving.

Tearing down the Garden.

Those 95 to 05 jerseys, including poo bear. (personified losing never want to see them again, ever)

Thornton deal.

My nephew telling me, "Uncle, the Bruins suck! I want a Edmonton Samsonov jersey instead". <-- (Got him a full drum set b/c this was my brother's fault)

Iggy thing was pretty humiliating at the time, but the payback? Priceless.

Acquiring gabage like Pouliot, Begin, Bourque, Daugavins, Corvo
Drafting Colborne, Caron, Subban, Knight
Throwing the towel on the 2009-2010 season by not getting any offensive help after terading Kessel

Usually only whispers and rumblings/speculation, but it always seemed that when Selanne was up for a new contract, the Bruins were always mentioned to be in the mix.

Most recently

http://www.lfpress.com/sports/hockey/2012/01/21/19276801.html

League sources say as many as four teams - the Rangers, Sharks, Bruins and Wings - have all made inquiries into Selanne's availability with the trade deadline just over a month away on Feb. 27. All are watching to see if Murray decides to make a move with his club mired near the bottom of the Western Conference.

Kind of an ongoing annoyance for me. He's has always been one of my faves, would have loved him as a Bruin. Ronenick as you mentioned and Amonte were two others that were always closely linked to the B's.
