On May 16, 1995, the Washington Capitals used three goaltenders in the same playoff *game* (Kolzig, Carey, Dafoe).

Wow, was that from bad goaltending, injuries, or a combination of the two?

Combination of the two... and the firepower the Pens had at that time (Jagr, Francis, Robitaille, Stevens, Sandstrom, etc.) This was Game 6 of the 1995 ECQF between the Caps and Pens, btw.

Carey let in 2 goals early and Jim Schoenfeld pulled him. Kolzig came in, played well, but injured his knee. Carey came back in the game and continued to stink it up. Schoenfeld pulled Carey for Dafoe after the 6th goal. Carey gave up 6 goals on 13 shots.

The Oilers used Roloson, Conklin, and Markkanen in the 2006 final.

Has a team ever had three different goaltenders start games in the same series? This seems probable to happen with the Flyers, as Leighton seems the likely choice to start Game 6 for them.

Vanbiesbrouck, Froese and Richter all started games for the Rangers in their first round loss to Pittsburgh in '89.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau:
In 2004, the Vancouver Canucks used 3 goalies to start games in their quarter-final series against Calgary - Dan Cloutier, Johan Hedberg and Alex Auld.

The 1985/86 Winnipeg Jets used 4 goalies in their first round playoff loss to Calgary in 3 straight games. 4 goalies in 3 games, great fun!!!

GAME #1 - Bouchard starts, yanked after 40 minutes, allowing 5 goals on 22 shots, he was replaced by Hayward who stopped all 6 shots in the final frame.

GAMES #2 - Hayward started, was yanked after 48 mins after allowing 6 goals on 25 shots, he was replaced by Behrend for the final 12, stopping all 7 he faced.

GAME #2 - 'Bandit' starts and goes the distance, a 4-3 OT loss allowing only 4 goals on 43 shots. This was his first NHL game, he had just been called up when his junior club (Chicoutimi Sagueneens) had been eliminated from the QMJHL playoffs.

Brian Hayward - 2GP - 68mins - 1 loss
Daniel Berthiaume - 1GP - 68mins - 1 loss
Dan Bouchard - 1GP - 40mins - 1 loss
Marc Behrend - 1GP - 12mins - no decision

I seem to remember the Black Hawks losing a playoff series in four straight and using three starting goalies: Tony Esposito, Gary Smith and Gerry Desjardins each had a start to no particular avail. I'd have to do some researtch to pinpoint it.

Just had a chance to check this (via Chicago Tribune archives) and need to correct my vague memory.

The Hawks in fact won a playoff series in four straight using three goalies. It was the opening round of the 1971-72 Playoffs.

5 Apr 1972: Chicago (Tony Esposito) 3, Pittsburgh (Jim Rutherford) 1.
6 Apr 1972: Chicago (Tony Esposito) 3, Pittsburgh (Jim Rutherford) 2.
8 Apr 1972: Chicago (Gary Smith) 2, Pittsburgh (Jim Rutherford) 0.
9 Apr 1972: Chicago (Gerry Desjardins) 6, Pittsburgh (Jim Rutherford) 5; 0:12 OT.

The Hawks then proceeded to blow four straight to the New York Rangers to exit the Stanley cup competition.

(I somehow remembered the use of the third goalie as a late futile effort, when it was really a victory lap.)

Wow, I can't believe there are this many instances. I would have guessed it happened 2-3 times at most.

In the 1972 semi-finals Boston set a record by scoring 28 goals in 4 games against St. Louis (6-1, 10-2, 7-3, and 5-3) and the Blues used 3 goalies. Ernie Wakely, Jacques Caron, and Peter McDuff.
