Holy smokes, that cap hit may be a godsend next year!

It's a bummer JoMo didn't get signed long term, but the bridge is consistent with the win-now mentality and gives Chevy some time to measure his assets and work with the cap ceiling a bit. Josh will hit the payday soon, though.

I'd call it the best of a tough situation, but I'm still a little torn. :(

Worth noting, two years from now, when Morrissey is due to sign a new contract:

- Trouba, if not traded or signed long term before, will hit UFA
- Little's full NMC turns into a limited NTC
- Perreault and Lowry have one year left before turning UFA
- Byfuglien will be 35 years old and have one year left before turning UFA
- an expansion draft is likely to take place

Maybe Morrissey will be expensive two years from now... but there will be a lot of ways to deal with that.

Pretty sure the jets wanted to sign Morrissey long term. Myers current contract has nothing to do with this Morrissey contract.

Quit making stuff up just to complain about Myers.

I'm sure they did. I'm also sure Morrissey's camp didn't want to accept the low amount of money they were offering on a long term deal due to the cap. With a two year bridge we can have more cap space in two years to sign him.

If we had the space, why wasn't he signed long term? They don't have faith in his ability?

Also Kuli’s deal expires.

Cause Morrissey’s agent wanted a bridge.

You left out Kulikov's contract will have expired also.

Very happy he signed but still a little disappointed it's a bridge. I didn't expect a long term deal at this point, though.

Good contract and gives Chevy some much needed breathing room for next summer, which has been the real test for him.

I'll say it here too but rather bridge Morrissey than Connor. I'm pretty sure everyone here wants to see the team being kept together as well as possible.

All the rumors were that Morrissey’s side wanted a bridge deal not a long term contract.
