After last night's game, you'd think someone would have mentioned (perhaps I missed it) that with the 5th goal of the game (his 14th of the season), the game winner, Morgan Rielly had set a career high in points!

In game #. . . 53?!? Wow.

Currently Rielly's stats are:
53 gp - 14 goals*- 39 assists - 53 points*
* career high

At his current pace, Rielly has an excellent shot at breaking these ALL-TIME , SINGLE SEASON LEAF RECORDS by a DEFENCEMAN...
Most Points by a Defenceman: 79, Ian Turnbull (1976/77)
Most Goals by a Defenceman: 22, Ian Turnbull (1976/77), Al Iafrate (1987/88)
Most Assists by a Defenceman: 66 Borje Salming (1976/77)
[I realise that Rielly's only on pace for 60 assists, but it's close enough that I thought I'd list it]

So - let's give up some love for Morgan Rielly, our true-blue, #1 defenceman, truly coming into his own this year, and greatly helping to power this potent offense.

He's not an all-star, by the way. Just thought I'd mention this.

It’s hilarious that a guy who will likely be a Norris Candidate wasn’t at the all-star game.

The process is so wacky. How are Rielly and Marner not there? Even if they are over Matty and Tavares.

Matthews said himself with the time he missed, Marner or Rielly should have been chosen to go

I think there should be the ALL-STAR game and they pick from all teams like now.

But the end of year 'team of the year' that is listed should carry more weight. So in a players stats saying x number all star it would be on the actual team, not the popularity contest some get to appear in (ie: Komarov), bonus' should depend on that for ELC players too

I didn't vote because I didn't want people thinking I'm a Habs or Sens fan.

It's a biased poll for sure, so this is a legitimate response.
The red-hot core - Rielly, Tavares, Marner and Matthews - have all slowed down a bit from their historic pace earlier in the year. And it was bound to happen. Rielly is likely going to be hard pressed for the goals title (currently on pace to tie it) and will be in tough for the pts title (on pace to beat it by 3, so it'll be close).

But it's a fan poll :laugh:

80 points and a new team record would be incredible, but his offensive pace has slowed down lately. Hoping for the best.

Those are tough numbers to reach. Realistically I don't think he can do it.

It sure bodes well if he breaks all of them.

Rielly's playing like a G .... and proving many people wrong!

But when Dubas re-signs him in 3 years .... the core will be looking like:

$ 11,600,000 = Matthews (confirmed)
$ 11,600,000 = Marner (if he gets 100+ points this season)
$ 11,800,000 = Rielly (if he remains a point per game #1D)
$ 11,000,000 = Tavares (confirmed)
$ 10,000,000 = Andersen (if his SV% stays above 0.920)
$ 7,000,000 = Muz/Gards (whichever one is re-signed)
$ 7,000,000 = Nylander (confirmed)
$ 7,000,000 = Kapanen (if he nets 60+ points while bridged)
$ 7,000,000 = Johnson (if he nets 60+ points while bridged)
$ 6,000,000 = Dermott (if he becomes a Top-4 D next year)
-------------------------------
$ 90,000,000 = 10 PLAYER TOTAL
$ 9,000,000 = COST PER PLAYER

But maybe Dubas just made me a pessimist this week ....

In terms of all-star selections, the ones that matter more are the First and Second Team All Star selections after the season. I'd say at this point Rielly has a good shot at making the first all star team d-pairing, and is a shoo-in to at least make the second.

The Leafs haven't had any selections to those teams since Sundin and McCabe (!) both made the Second All Star team in 03-04.

Riley will break all records this season. The one that I think will be toughest to break is goals. Don't know if he has it in him to get 22 to tie and 23 to break. But points and assists will definitely be broken.

Isn’t the Salary cap going up to about 85 million in the next few seasons? In 3 seasons it could be at 90 million. If the leafs make deep playoff runs league revenue in general will go way up.

None of the above, I picked the last one but am not a sens or has fan, dumb poll options
Hes slowing down a bit, I see something like 20G, 55A, 75 P if he plays all 82.
Still an amazing year

True, I don’t think he’ll reach 80 points either, as a Leafs fan. He has 9 points in his last 16 games. While not indicative of the next 29 games, we can’t assume he’ll go PPG from here on out either. But at least it’s still a discussion this far into the season.

I can't believe he has 14 goals already! Realized that last night, that's so awesome.

What a season by our franchise defensemen.

Yeah it might be close to $90 or $95 million by then.
But that isn't nearly enough to get 13 more players under to cap (in my ridiculous example)
