The Moose PP was an absolute joke outside the 4 on 3 yesterday. The top unit never got set up and were actually hemmed in the Moose end both PP's.

The second unit did marginally better but still didn't have much zone possession.

Unit 1 was:

Todd, Grayovac, Lynch and Mckenzie with Heinola on the point.
-Couldnt tell you how they would have set up as they never got in the other teams end.
-in past games Reichel was in for Mckenzie
All in all unit 1 has not functioned well at all this season as the grinders Vincent is using don't seem to have a clue how to slow things down and move the puck. I'd be beyond frustrated if I was Heinola.

Unit 2:

Seuss/Perfetti/Rachel
With Chisholm and Gawanke on the point

Perfetti in the Wheeler slot on the hw, Seuess in the old Laine spot and Reichel infront of the net.

This unit thanks to Cole has gained the zone ok but have had some issues setting up due to some forced passes and bad shots.

On the 4 on 3:

Todd and Graovac where on with Cole and Ville. The two of them almost single handedly botched it with a soft dump on the zone entry on a 4 on 3 that the other team easily got to and cleared. They also forced some real bad shots and almost turned it over with a low skilled rim on the pp.

Vincent likely trying to reward them scoring at 5 on 5 but they have no clue what to do on a pp.

Honestly Heinola and Perfetti should be the two core pieces of the Moose PP and like in the 4 on 3 should be able to play catch with each other and break teams down. Throw in Seuss in the Laine slot as cross seam one time option and Rechiel down low and one of Grayovac/Todd as the net front screen and I think we'd get some traction.

I’d like to see Perfetti/Suess/Reichel/Graovac/Heinola on the first unit and maybe something like McKenzie/Lynch/Luoto/Gawanke/Chisholm on the second unit.

The problem is the Moose forward depth falls off a cliff after the first line. Todd and Lynch are producing right now but looking at their career stats I’d say it isn’t sustainable. Lynch is a bit younger so maybe give him the benefit of the doubt that he’ll improve.

For forwards:

-Perfetti is obviously our blue chipper
-Reichel is a hard worker but his stats aren’t eye popping
-Suess is looking like a decent career AHLer
-Graovac looks like a good AHLer — in the Jason Jaffray mould — very good in the minors but not NHL material. I don’t hate having him on the Moose because they need help
-Luoto is more of a grinder I think
-McKenzie is not much at this level neither
-Everyone else pretty much are ECHLers who are playing up or guys that can’t produce at the AHL level, it’s actually impressive the Moose have a winning record

Hopefully we can get Gus and Ves down there as opposed to sitting in the press box. The Moose sorely need it.

Good analysis. McKenzie looks really off this year. Not sure what's going on but in his previous time with the Moose he's been inconsistent but useful, a buzzsaw all over the ice in the JC Lipon mould but with better finishing skill. This year he looks like a different player. Hope he can sort it out because he's fun to watch when he's on.

The forwards are brutal for sure. I wonder if they might have sent down Harkins for a conditioning stint, since he still looked like he was carrying an injury during his brief return. Ves is already too good for the A at this point I think, and Gus too likely, but they play well together so maybe they get in some games for the playing time until a spot opens up (sigh) in the Jets' 4th.

Maybe they didn't bother with the usual sprinkling of stronger vets b/c they knew there would be minimal gate, but the games look more like TC scrimmages than actual AHL as often as not. It's 36.00 or whatevs well spent to see the prospects but boy is it hard to watch at times.

The rest of the Canadian Division schedule has been announced.

The Moose will have a 17-game homestand, sandwiched between road matches to finish the regular season in May.
At 36 games, this is towards the the maximum games that some AHL teams are playing (some club are playing up to 40 games, while others are playing as little as 24).
As previously reported, all remaining home games will be played at Bell MTS Iceplex.

This is difficult to watch. Dmen are just smacking the puck forward whenever they get it in the defensive zone and giving it away most of the time. Don't have anybody to give it to. Either the forwards are too useless to position themselves for a standard breakout or this team isn't working on them enough. Defensemen look super frustrated.

2 not great goals for Berdin to let in, but if it weren't for him they'd have 3 or 4 more.

Suess set up Perfetti for a great opportunity but he heeled the puck.

Gawanke on the PK for no reason I can understand. Was literally standing still screening Berdin while a Laval player was behind him right on top of Berdin and another player was wide open to his right 5 feet away from Berdin. Didn't pick up either.

Well then you just explained perfectly why he is there. He needs to learn how to do it. Development, remember. :)

That wont matter though as Maurice wont use them there for a year anyhow.

Another story.

On a development team, you don't have to use your players the same way as you would otherwise. A guy who may be top 6 on the Moose is going to be bottom 6 on the Jets. He needs to learn to PK more then he needs to learn to PP.

And Gus and Ves need to play.

No dissagrements but the Moose really have no forward prospects of note other then Cole and those players are already on the PK as are our d prospects of note.

It annoys me that we develop so many of these kids to be able to PK and then Moe turns around and doesn't use them on it. He instead insists on dressing useless plugs like Thompson to use.

All the young players we have graduated have spent significant time on the Moose's PK. Our coach should be able to plug and play them and not worry about dressing over the hill specialists.

Thanks Sur. That's quite awful. Certainly not optimal for taking Heinola to the next level.

I agree, have no idea why you wouldn't want Perfetti and Heinola on the same PP. I was wondering where Gawanke would fit in now, because he was pretty good on the PP. For the lack of a RH forward shot (other than Reichel, and I guess Todd), I thought Vincent might put him on the flank, with Heinola on top, Perfetti on the other flank. Seems like a work in progress, 2nd unit looks more talented than the first, minus Heinola.

Feel bad for our D prospects. This forward group is not anywhere close to ideal to help their development.

Perfetti with an apple on the PP. Moose up 3-2 despite being outshot 28-13. They look awful.

It the Moose could win games without making Berdin the 1st star every time, that would be great!
This was probably the closest they've come to not completely relying on him. Still got beat down pretty good despite having all the powerplays in the game.
