So Beliveau, Lafleur, Robinson, Savard, Tremblay, et al were not skilled or technically gifted? Ummm, OOKAAAAYYYY

Depends on the rules of this little game.

If Russia has a bigger pool of prospects to choose from, you have to throw Montreal a carrot and let them have all their players in their prime years, or the career year for each player, even better.

1972 Big M - 1959 Beliveau - 1977 Lafleur

1978 Robinson - 1977 Savard
1977 Lapointe - 1996 Chelios

2015 Price

Denis Savard, Chris Chelios, Beliveau, Leclair, whoever. That makes it more competitive.

I guess if people mention Chelios' 6 seasons as a young player, then it's only fair to mention Cleghorn's 4 seasons in his 30s. Both were very good, but probably not at their peaks.

But what's the case for Malone? He played 3 seasons for Montreal, but 2 of them were as a spare.

Chelios won a Norris Trophy in Montreal. You can argue when his peak was, but its irrelevant, he was a world class defensemen as a Montreal Canadien and belongs on any list of their all-time best defenders.

He was also runner-up to Lemieux for the Calder in '85, had been a huge part of Montreal's run to the conference finals the year before & won a Cup the following year playing big minutes and played in two Canada Cups while a Canadien. Absolutely world class and he totally belongs in the conversation.
