Bitten was way too much to give up for this flexibility. A late round pick would have been fine.

I still think Benn is going to get moved or waived at some point...

And you probably won't be able to trade the guy if he's a healthy scratch game 1.

There's some NHL experience in Laval with Olofsson, Kulak and even Lernout.

Yes. But you want to keep your pro-contract under the upper limit (50) hence why you trade one of yours to get one of theirs, rather than just picking the guy up on the waivers.

I liked Bitten. But Kulak and Olofsson have a bigger chance of dislodging Benn, Schlemko, and Alzner sooner than Bitten would earn a spot in Montreal.

Why not trade a low level prospect to acquire a player like Clarke MaCarthur on LTIR and a 2020 second round pick.....Melnyk is cheap he would love to have some owner pay 9 million remaing on MaCarthur contract.
