I had posted an account of Olofsson long and serious injury record, in this thread:

Now it's looking more and more like the Habs acquired an injury-prone player in exchange for a healthy body.

This tweet gives pause:

TRANSLATION: This tryout (i.e. Ryan Sproul signed to the Rocket) is telling me that it's not auguring well for Olofsson (shoulder injury).

Was it a stretch to predict that a player who suffered, amongst several other injuries, a torn labrum in both shoulders, was going to have shoulder issues? I wonder how Olofsson got clearance from the Habs's medical staff.

a torn labrum in both of his shoulders
his injuries aren't that big, I have both shoulders labrum torned too and you can still play at high level (I was still swimming competitively when i had my 2 labrums torned)

Most of us don’t care about Bergevin’s reputation

We're way past the point where he has any reputation that he can credibly defend. But, that will be for another thread.

A high speed contact sport played at the the most elite level is not comparable to swimming at any level, IMHO. But there's more to that, as the player has a long laundry list of very serious injuries within a short timespan which were known to the Habs when they acquired him. We'll see, I suppose.

Comes down to iffy Montreal scouting, as per usual. You'll find the one scout who says 'Take Reilly' and the others who say 'King and Martinsen will improve the team greatly'. Unfortunately we have both types of scouts in the system.

That's a fair point. The pro scouting department has not seen many key changes and the individuals who vetted Martinsen, Ott, King, Alzner, Hemsky, Streit are still being counted upon.

A torn labrum really isn't a big thing most of the time. Lots people have them an don't even know...

That worries me as well, someone is telling the team to take these guys.

Even with the injuries, I'd rather take a chance on a guy who fits in an organization need where we are currently playing Jordie Benn on the top pair as opposed to another small winger who'd be sitting in the stands with Verbeek.

so then pick him off waivers for free and send Bitten to the ECHL where he can play a ton. Problem solved.

Maybe Olofsson should have taken up competitive swimming.

Since his past injuries esp. to the shoulders, weren't a "big thing", how come he's out for 6 months?

Dang rough luck.

I hate to break it to anyone, but this guy's injury record was extensive, esp. to the shoulders. I backtracked his injuries and wondered how the Habs's medical staff had cleared him for the trade as the frequency and nature of the reported injuries, looked extensive and gave a strong indication that he is an injury-prone player. And now he's out for 6 months, how is it still surprising anyone?

There is no rough luck at play here. The player's injury record was a huge red flag but management still greenlighted the player.

Thank god Bitten won't amount to anything 'cause that would have been a really bad trade.....

That hardly puts a balm on the trade.

It's not what Bitten will amount to, it's that he's a healthy body who could have been traded for an equally healthy asset -- and who apparently was interesting enough to the Wild, to make a deal for. Clearly, the Habs valued Bitten so little that they were willing to take on even a damaged, injury-prone asset for him. That's not great asset management.

they took a gamble on an injury prone player. If it works out it's a big return and if notiits a nothing trade. So win-win. Who cares about Bitten. I doubt he had value of a 7th round pick.

Exactly - its a gamble with very little if any risk.

Maybe it's still not a big thing. They may have simply figured that 6 months would finally recover his shoulders for the long-term. Well, I hope that's their conclusion.

A guy with extensive injuries to both shoulders is now out for 6 months on account of a shoulder injury. I don't know how that was not predictable.

Just confirms further just how little they valued Bitten.

Not that I’m certain of this or have inside knowledge, but I believe there’s no evaluation from your team’s medical before a trade. It’d be up to MB to say “how’s Olof health wise?” and just take their word for it.

After the trade, then sure, evaluate him by your staff.

But yeah, his shoulder’s history should had raised a few eyebrows prior.
