Two very good selections.

The Harold Baines induction was terrible. The answer isn’t to make him the new standard for induction. I don’t want Cooperstown’s criteria to match up with what they use for the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Evans hit the most homers of any player in the 1980's with 255

I hate this argument. Why don't they put hundreds of other players that were better than Baines into the HoF while they're at it?

I agree that Evans is a borderline candidate and Baines got in only because Jerry Reinsdorf demanded it.

Should Gil Hodges be in?

Gil Hodges excelled at all phases of the game

Marvin Miller is in and he should be. Ironically he made the owners richer as well though they didn't know that at the time.

Politics are involved with every sports HOF - Here in Boston, we have lobbied hard to get Geno Cappelletti enshrined in Canton.

In 1960, Gino Cappelletti made his pro football debut as a member of the newly created Boston Patriots. Over the course of the 11-year career that followed, he became one of the most recognizable faces of the young franchise — and one of the American Football League’s biggest stars: Cappelletti was a five-time AFL All-Star, was voted the league’s most valuable player in 1964 and retired as its all-time leading scorer with 1,130 points.

2020 could be Gino Cappelletti’s best shot yet to make the Hall of Fame

My biggest beef with the BHOF is who can vote.

Back in 1939 giving the newspaper writers the power made sense but that no longer should be the case. Shouldn't somebody like Vin Scully have a vote? Scully has probably seen more MLB games than anybody else on the planet. There are numerous broadcasters with over 30 years covering the game and yet they are ignored.

The thing is though that he never wanted to be in the hall

He was asked about it many times before he died and he said he didn't want to go in

And? His case isn’t any stronger than Garvey and Whitaker probably has a stronger case than both.

The case for Evans blows Simmons out of the water.

Simmons has an extremely weak case and if it weren't for Baines would be the new low for the HOF

He didn’t but was it a faux bitter who cares type of professing not wanting to be in after getting passed over so many times or a legitimate belief he shouldn’t be in?

Simmons was a catcher, not a OF/1B/DH, it's not really fair to compare him to Evans

Every other catcher with a WAR as high or higher is in the HOF (besides Mauer)

Among catchers, 10th in WAR, 2nd in Hits, 2nd in Doubles, 12th in HR, 2nd in RBI, maybe he wasn't Bench or Carter but he was no slouch either
