I've fallen out of Mets Baseball so much since the Mets last World Series appearance against Kansas City that I don't know who's who as far as Position-players go, nor do I care.

Can't say I really blame you. I won't go as far as to say they should have won that World Series but they should have won that World Series. I'll watch the majority of their games this year even if they stink because I love the pain.

I used to love baseball. Not anymore. The powers that be can make all the rules changes they want. The games will still take too long and are BORING. Then throw in the stupid-ass "stats" and MVR BS and you have the total ruination of the game. Yeah, "Get off my lawn!".

It's the new norm in baseball - look at how late JD and Arietta signed last year, among others. Part of it is just Bora$ and other agents playing the waiting game to a science. Just like nobody wants to negotiate a hockey CBA till January, nobody wants to negotiate a big baseball contract till just before spring training anymore. There's no salary cap like in the other sports which amps up the urgency for both sides to get deals done.

Plus on the owners' side they aren't as willing to give the stupid offers as they've been in the past. The union calls it collusion and I wouldn't really put it past the owners (they've done it before, after all!) but I just think it's too many teams tanking to begin with + analytics + owners being beaten over the head one too many times with almost every big money, big term contract being a disaster. For every Scherzer there's ten guys like Pujols, A-Rod, Cabrera, Votto, etc...guys worth the money when they sign but then when they start to go downhill there's still multiple years left on their deals and the contracts become an albatross. Hell that's part of why the Mets are so gunshy about spending - Wright, Cespedes, Santana, Pedro, etc.

Machado to the Padres is the funniest thing ever. This offseason was the most hyped offseason in a long time and the 1A/1B big fish signed in San Diego to win 70-80 games for the next 10 years.

The gamble is whether the Padres top ranked farm team can churn out some guys. Most of the prospect folks have compared the Padres farm to what the Astros was before they were contending. Granted I always feel like there's less certainty with baseball prospects, especially pitchers.

I don't think they're expecting to contend this year but I think things can start looking better in 2020. Once the window opens, perhaps there's a trade to be had to cash in some of those prospects for a front line pitcher.

Oh I feel your pain. Love baseball but our Orioles are going to be historically bad this season. Crazy that 2014 this team made it to the ALCS without a then incredibly productive Chris Davis and a very good/young Machado. That team was dismantled and now we are left with a shell of its former self. Not many reasons to be excited at all as an orioles fan this year.
