Ex-scouts sue MLB, Rob Manfred for alleged age discrimination

"This was not a natural reduction in workforce. This was, 'You’re all gone.'"

The lawsuit was filed in a U.S. District Court in Denver by a group 17 scouts formerly employed by MLB. Their ages range from 55 to 71, and they all worked as scouts for at least 24 years, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Per the Associated Press, the lawsuit cites the federal Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 in addition to laws in 11 different states and New York City. The lawsuit states that MLB and its teams “have acted to prevent the reemployment of older scouts or refused the reemployment of older scouts.”

Eh, this smells more like scouts who the game has passed by making an excuse for why they cant get hired.

It's pro sports. No team is going to willingly ignore good scouts who need a job.

Plenty of good people in all industries are ignored due to their age and perceived salary requirements.

I'm intrigued by the burden of proof on this.

Like, how do you prove you're unfairly not retained... you're still good at your job, as a scout?


Do teams pull out reports from past players and be like "His report on Mike Trout was that he might be a 4th OF." Or "probably won't be top end, but durable enough to be a back-end innings-eating starting pitcher" for Jacob deGrom ?

Every league has age restrictions so yes there is age discrimination
