So any word yet from the league? I SERIOUSLY would be absolutely shocked if he doesn't get a game suspension, literally shocked.

Gotta love HFBoards!!!

Any time something happens to a Penguin, the logic is that it is either "karma" or that they somehow brought it on themselves and that they "deserved" it some how...

Crosby knocks a glove away in a game and the board erupts with how childish and idiotic it was.

Lucic rips a guy's chinstrap off and tosses it into the crowd and the board LOVES IT.

Marc Staal crosschecks Crosby's neck multiple times and we hear "strong hockey play".

Mitchell swings Letang's helmet at him and the response is that Letang brings it upon himself because he is a "rat" and that swinging a helmet at his head is "no big deal"...

GUARANTEE that if Downie or Bortuzzo would have pulled that and this board would ERUPT with posters calling for their heads, taking the obligatory cheapshots on Crosby, and making sarcastic comments about Mario...

I am unbiased enough to say that what Downie did last night, taking swings at Gudbranson while he was on the ice was over the line. Why can't others just say that what Mitchell did was unecessary???

You already know why. Here's the worst kept secret in sports fandom, no one actually cares about dirty hits, nobody is really offended, nobody ever remembers past the next day if it doesn't involve "their" team. There's no genuine worrying over another human's well being, it's all temporary lies we conform to in order to fit in with the rest of the group, a feedback loop to reassure each other that "we" are right and "they" are wrong. Every single time an incident happens, every fan of Team A pretends that they're holier than the fans of Team B, how only they sit on the high horse, and this flip flopping occurs within every online discussion there is.

These boards when it comes to anything involving Pitt (or Bos, Tor, a few others) is a prime example of this. Your list being only some examples in recent memory that demonstrates the hypocritical pretend outrages that occur here anytime anyone related to Pitt does something controversial, as does the noticeable hypocritical lack of outrage when the tables are reversed.

The reason the revelation of "if this had happened to Crosby" gets uttered so often like the person just graced us with the theory of relativity, is because everyone who makes that statement simply forgot all the other times it was brought up, much like how they forgot all the times the "if this had happened" incidents have happened to Crosby, Malkin, or any random Pitt player and low and behond everyone actually liked it instead, which is why they don't remember it. Crosby's head was hit repeatedly by Dubinsky and Staal multiple times last playoffs, a thread on the playoff boards was made after game 1 pointing it out, and a majority mocked it, were in favor of it, and it was just "playoff hockey". Crosby eventually retaliates in one of the later games of the Rangers series, and a new thread is born, where all of a sudden the definition of "playoff hockey" has suddenly changed. The reason for this is people only care enough to remember what confirms their preconceived notions, beliefs, bias, etc. You only ever pretend to be angry when something goes against "your" beliefs. Neal tries to hit two Flyer's in the head? Outrage. Giroux successfully hits a Devil in the head the very next series? No one cares. It's textbook seeing what you want to see. By the way, Luongo in this game knocked Downie's stick away while he was in the process of reaching to pick it up, where are all the affronted Flyer fans? Oh, you aren't pretending to care anymore because it's not someone you dislike? Color me shocked. Or maybe it'll take Luongo saying he "doesn't like anyone on that team", because then that would make him literally Hitler (Godwin quota met), like this was some high school clique, sticks and stones and all.

If this gets quoted it will be with the same old "playing the victim" card, Mario should write a letter, etc., but you know it's true.

Not sure how anyone can defend this. Imagine if he actually connected full on with the side of Letangs head/temple. Certainly worth a suspension.

A 1 game suspension cost him $52,000. Certainly better than a $2500 fine.

Considering he was swinging from a bad angle, by the chin strap, I could imagine there being little to no damage if he made contact with Letang's head, especially since swinging a helmet like that by a strap doesn't allow you to really build up any real force behind the blow. It is, effectively, like hitting someone with a purse. Now..if he had some weight behind it like a brick or if he was trying to hit him with a more secure grip on the helmet so he could channel force behind it to do damage, he could in theory make Letang bleed.

This isn't like swinging a stick.

Your post is pathetic. It doesn't matter, the intent was there. It was a match penalty and game misconduct. You simply can't dispute it, so please stop.

Pens fans were (and still are apparently) defending Bortuzzo's headbutt, despite you know, intent for malicious action.

Relevance? Even if what you say was accurate? Can anyone actually defend that swinging at someone with a helmet shouldn't be penalized? No, I'm not talking about whatever you believe happened in the past, in another land, or whatever, but, actually, like, in the matter being discussed in this thread.

I'm surprised Letang didn't flop to the ice and act like he just got shot

Dumb move by Mitchell though

Strong play but unintentional. 5 minutes for fighting should be enough.

How is swinging a helmet at someone "unintentional"?

What do you believe his intentions were? To swing the sweat out of it and hand it back to Letang in a loving sign of the spirit of sharing during the holidays?

Mitchell appears to have a screw loose. I've only seen him in 2 games this season but in both he lost his temper at one point and freaked out (over nothing). May be it's the pressure of stepping up as captain, either way he should be disciplined enough to keep his composure.
