Time to re-evaluate the discussions at the beginning of the season that had Point, Rantanen, Aho + every other rfa at a higher level than Marner?
My oh my...good times.
Not shooting at honest opinions but the vitriolic nonsense.

Well, what has transpired this season is Aho, Point and Rantanen took lsignificantly less money, are all scoring significantly less points than Marner, but their teams are also in playoff positions, suggesting Carolina, Colorado and Tampa could afford other support pieces to build stronger teams...

But to your point, Marner isn't a problem by any stretch this season. The core pieces that have let us down are Andersen, Tavares and Rielly.

While you are correct that Rantanen took less money he still accepted a 6 year contract like Marner, however his AAV is still $9.25 million which is still a high number. It just doesn't look like much compared to Marner's AAV.

Well, as we are seeing, every million helps. Could have been a legitimate backup or not playing Martin Marincin.

2 of those 3 also got less years to bring the cost down. What has actually happened is Tampa, Carolina, and Colorado have gotten decent goaltending (top 11 team sv% - Carolina/Colorado improved over last season), while Toronto has suddenly had some of the worst in the league (24th team sv% - biggest drop of the 4 teams in ranking and actual sv%), despite improved defensive metrics.

I will agree with you 100% about Martin Marincin because I don't know why Dubas keeps re-signing him.
He's league average as a depth fill-in piece, and is decent on the PK. He's a known entity, he comes at league minimum, which means he can be sent down with no penalty, and he doesn't seem to mind playing with the Marlies or even being a healthy scratch when required.

Obviously you don't want him playing the role he is now, but that's out of necessity due to injury, not choice.
