We had no depth, both on defense and the bottom six.

Yes. The depth was not good.

However the depth was not bad to the degree to play a 6th/7th dman for over 20 minutes a game routinely. Was our depth in D so much worse compared to the 2019 Oilers that we had to play Manning for 4 or 5 minutes more a game on average? It was bad. It wasn't this "no other choice :((((" bad.

And even if it were. How far removed from each other would a GM and a coach be not to address such glaring need for 3 seasons (as in we had to play a 6/7th dman for over 16 minutes a game in 15-16 and then for over 18 minutes in 16-17 and almost 18 in 17-18 - compared to 13:25 by the corpseless 2019 Oilers)?
If you play a 6/7th dman way over his supposed role for one year, sure bad depth. If you increase his role significantly for the next two years too (or don't seek any replacement to move his deployment down closer to proper usage - we had the assets to do it as opposed to the 2019 Oilers), the hell are you doing
