Oh boy, Mack expects Mikko to get 20M$ over 8yrs, so 2.5M$ AAV...
Mack is going to be surprised when Mikko makes more than him!
If we can get Mikko locked up for under $10mm / year, I'll be thrilled. I expect in the $9.5mm-$10.5mm / year, range. As long as it's 8 years, I'm way cool with that
My guess is that Sakic will refuse to go higher than 9M and because of that it will be a 5-6y max contract. So either something around 8x5 or 9x6. And i also think that would be an OK deal for both parties.
Am I the only one that thinks your all are crazy thinking Sakic will pay him that much? I fully expect Mikko to hold out cause he and Joe won't be in the same stratosphere with $$$. This is the same organization that hasn't been willing to pay anyone big $ for years.
Interesting point. It’s funny, how we could really use a Duchene/O’reilly right now haha.
I could be wrong, but I think we were in a worse cap situation back then, then we are now. And Mikko’s now proven it in back-to-back years. The pushback Joe might use in negotiation is the fact that Mikko can look like a baby deer in the defensive zone some times, and plays with Mack.
That being said, I love the dude and would happily pay 9/10 M for him. I was happy with his playoff performance considering the injuries.
No, we never were in cap space issues. always bottom feeders.
Trade his ass if his agent tries to play hardball again & refuses to respect the MacK-cap
I'm guessing around 9.75per on a 5 year deal...though I hope that we can squeeze a 6th year in without having to up his AAV over 10.5M, with a 6year ~59M deal being the dream.
...except for those years where we spent to the cap...
Be even more cool if Mikko took the David Pastrnak approach to money.
I'm just happy that PL or his puppets aren't around to botch this contract negotiation
Not crazy but I think a little paranoid. Sakic has seemingly grown a lot as GM. I'll trust him to make what seems like an obvious decision for now.
I don't want it turned into the ROR situation, but I also don't think Sakic should just cave either. Mikko is a RFA coming out of his ELC without arbitration.
I personally think they will start with the Leon deal and go from there. Or use Matthews's contract, and play the winger vs center card.
My apologies if this is posted already.
Mikko played game 7 against Sharks with broken foot. He can't even run until end of July:
Mikko Rantanen played with a broken foot in Game 7 vs San Jose Sharks
The voices in my head told me we will have a 6 year $49.2m contract for Rantanen by end of next week.
That's cause the stars actually care about their players and don't treat them like cheap meat
Whatever happened may not be too serious. Pretty sure he just posted on his IG stories a little video of him swimming.
We're going to leave his contract resolution until mid-July or August, aren't we?
Just a gut feeling here that he will wait to see the Marner deal first.
I think it is likely. All of these RFAs (Marner, Rantanen, Laine, Aho, Tkachuk) and their agents will want to understand the market better. We need one of them to sign to establish some parameters (the first shoe to drop so to speak). I am just hoping it is not the wonder boy in Toronto with his well established contract negotiating skills.
The lower cap is going to make this group of RFAs real interesting. I think we're destined for bridge deals now.
I think expecting a 7-8 year deal for Rantanen has always been unlikely.
I see a 5 year deal coming, unfortunately.
I thought bridge deals were a thing of the past. I guess I was wrong.
The good news is I'm guessing the next lockout/CBA agreement won't allow for these "buyout proof" contracts, and it's possible they eliminate the NMC as well.
