For offense, We added a legit 2C and elite 4C, giving up nothing from last year’s team, except Wennberg.

Defense is where the problem is. We gave up two half-decent 2nd pair guys for nothing. Hopefully Peeke takes a big step forward, because I cannot f***ing watch Scott Harrington play 60-70 times next year.
Elite 4Cs don’t exist. I’m okay with the Koivu signing but if it means a more ice time for Riley Nash, then what was the point?

Will provide a lot of value and experience in defensive end, and is a solid locker loom leader (as expected from one of the longest-tenured captains in the league). Kinda poetic Mikko goes from a career in one expansion team to his twilight in another.

Also, he will get kicked off the faceoff dot more often than one expects. Get used to it. However, he will also show flashes of his playmaking ability and good reads, plus his physical prowess hasn't gone anywhere. Slow he is, that one cannot deny, but should prove a lot of value in the correct role.

Good luck next season and hey - take care of our captain, will you? At least enough to spell his name correctly on the title.

No disrespect to the Captain, I just can't type eh?

Wait. Wait a minute. I thought our gimmick was that despite having a Finnish GM we avoided Finnish players. WTF, Jarmo? Didn't you bring us enough confusion already?

;)

We've got our OGWAC position taken care of, and he ought to make a good #4C as well. We're back to having center depth like we did last year, only this time we have what's probably an actual #2C instead of leaning on all the depth guys. Yay!

I like it. He’s a cheap AW replacement with leadership skills coming onto one of the youngest teams in the league.
I know everyone wants a sexy signing, but we got better this off season, a lot better. And we were already a playoff team.
I’m reserving judgement until we see if Grigs is an adequate player. And if Domi can regain his form along with almost every single forward on this team not named Pierre or Oliver who had piss poor years last year (looking at you, Cam).

At least now we have someone who can win a damn face off.

Am i the only one who thinks CBJ threads have more writers?

I dont know what to say about this deal. Legend, The Leader, Captain of Captains but still.. Age,speed, fking pornstar-->divorce(thats actually nice if it didnt effect his career so badly). I hardly see Mikko playing in NHL anymore. Pricetag is great and C depth get better but how badly younger faster players skates over, under, around him. Hopefully he gets 4th C position with 10min icetime

As it stands, the offensive lineup is likely this?

Texier - PLD - Bjorkstrand
Foligno - Domi - Atkinson
Nyquist - Koivu - Jenner
Foudy - Nash - Grigorenko

Bemstrom
Robinson

Wait, I knew he was old but he's damaged goods too?

Well, Selänne was damaged goods in 2003-2004 with 32p in 78gp. Also the knees actually. After the lockout he came back with 90p in 80gp. Bad knees do that and if Mikko is back in shape now, this contract could be the biggest steal of UFA.

If his knew was the problem then he just might be superb nro. center!
I he continues to be as slow as last season he will be superb 4th line center!

Or he can do that last desperate veteran move. Drop weight to get more speed. Works for one to two seasons.

On its own it’s a nice add in the bottom 6 and kicks Jenner to the outside where he’s more effective.

Big picture, if this is truly all Jarmo is doing (I have my doubts), we are likely still a bottom 10 offense which = bubble team.

But hey, at least we won’t be one of “the youngest teams in the NHL” anymore. :sarcasm:

I really doubt this is all thats Jarmo is doing. The only reason why it could be is ownership has told him to cut 10M+ of the budget. Every GM wants to ice the best team possible.

Even if he doesn't play a second its an epic signing for leadership. Younger players that only play for points to get big money contracts will stop to think WHY did Koivu risk his career and sign us for a year for 1,5M. Even if the players did not believe in a cup run before, some might believe in it now.

I'm sure he will be playing against top lines in defensive situations and might even revitalize himself pointwise.
