That's got me confused. Why would Wilson require waivers? Although he was drafted in 2009, he didn't sign his elc until 2011. I thought the 7 years was from the time he signed his elc. I'd like to think they kept him over the rest of the guys because they need some grit in the home stretch. He was my choice to stick.

If he signed when he was 20 he was waiver exempt for 3 years. There is a chart on cap friendly that has a chart of how long guys are waiver exempt after they sign.

It confused me at first too. Also, I believe it says that for players 20 and older, it starts counting your games with your first pro game (even if it's not in the NHL).
