Yeah it's his choice. If you look at film and TV it's clear that it's not been easy for black actors to get the same opportunity for roles. He decided to free up the role for a black voice actor himself, I'm not sure what there is to hate about that, doesn't seem like anyone pressured him to do so.

I didn't think his character was a racist stereotype or that his voice was racist, but idk if there's any talk about that out there like there was with Apu from The Simpsons. Although you could argue that Consuela was a racist caricature.
