Wow, this'll set him back a ways.
Not necessarily. Marian Hossa benefitted greatly from 6 months away from the rink due to reconstructive knee surgery. He took advantage of the time off and developped the upper body strength that helps makes him the great player he is today.

But how much actual game action did he miss? Didn't he rehab over the summer time?

And that was just one knee injury. It's hard to put a positive spin on a twice rebuilt knee before he even turns 20.

Not to mention the likelyhood of yet another tearing of the ligaments, plus arthritis and all that crap. The kid's career isn't exactly over, but the mental and physical aspects of a rehab will definitely set him back a ways.

Michalek is a strong boy, he reported to camp at 220. He has a great work ethic and really worked hard to get back on the ice the first time. 3 1/2 months was a pretty short rehab period we all thought. Mabey he was put back in to soon? Either way now he has 8 1/2 months to get that knee better. He has already had surgery on it and well rehab the rest of the season and summer. He should be fine next season.

On the bright side, after his first week in the AHL he turned it on. He was a force in his last few games in the AHL. His skating was not hindured by this injury, so it's good to know his skating wont be harmed. He played cautious early but in his last few games he went to the trouble areas and took some big hits to make he play.

He had 2 goals and 2 assist in 7 games. He had a goal in 2 NHL games.

His offensive abilitys, and hustle impressed us all the most.

Still a good prospect, like Hossa this could be what the doctor orderd possibly. Although I much rather have him healthy then rehabing again. Best wishes to Milan.

Maybe the added weight just put too much strain on his joints?

Anyway, I think the most unfortunate thing is that it's all happening mid-season. Maybe he can get healthy for the world cup just to get some more game action in.
