Too bad Miami wasn't able to complete the Gallinari deal because that would've made things a lot better. Dumping the final years of Johnson and Waiters' contracts is a big win for them though.
I feel like Crowder is one of those guys where the idea of him is better than actually having him. He's viewed as a valuable 3&D wing but he's not a very good three point shooter. Still, Miami improved their perimeter defense quite a bit, assuming Iguodala will be in game shape by the time the playoffs start.
I thought this would've been a smart move for both him and the Heat. A sign and trade is certainly possible and in that case he'll probably get his long-term deal but if not, whose going to pay him? The only non-rebuilding team currently with cap space this summer is Miami and we know they're not touching their future cap space. He could've gotten a big one-year deal and then jumped into free agency in 2021. More top end players on the market that year but also a lot more teams with cap space.
