Yet we just traded for a guy that has been a healthy scratch for them a few times this year, and that a few days ago they felt the need to upgrade from.

As has been pointed out, the Bruins and the Flyers play different defensive systems. It's possible for a player to fit well in one and struggle in another.

So you would sit Bart?? Miller has really impressed since he got the call up..Personally I think Dougie has to get better in his own end. He seems to have the same problem as Meszaros so DONT put them on the ice together or it could spell disaster. I'm really disappointed in Joe Morrow. When the Seguin deal went down, I thought he was the best player coming back next to Eriksson, certainly not Smith. Hopefully in time Morrow shows why the Penguins picked him in the 1st round..

Hamilton playing with Chara would help a lot as far as Dougie's shortcomings, IMO, although admittedly Dougie isn't the fastest skater either. For the record, I really don't think Hamilton is a disaster in his own end. If anything, I've seen him get burned down the wing a bunch of times. But I haven't noticed him as really having a problem with defensive coverage.

The Meszaros-Miller pairing could be problematic. Miller has been more than anyone could have ever asked for or expected, but he is a rookie. Meszaros, as some of us know and others have been told, is a problem in his defensive zone pretty frequently. I thought maybe Miller could steady the ship there, but it is a lot to ask of a rookie. All that being said, when the alternative is a Bartkowski, who I think has been underwhelming for a good part of this year, I definitely want to try it.

Another option that I am sure would not be popular around here at all is trying Meszaros (before the playoffs of course) on the top 4, with Boychuk and Chara split up on as the #1 and #3. Andrej Meszaros used to play in the top 4 regularly and I know his defense didn't USED to be great. You could look at the results there.

I guess my conclusion is that we're pretty comfortably going to at least make the playoffs. Can't afford to take their foot off the gas, but the team does have time to experiment and I wouldn't mind trying Meszaros in as many positions, with as many different D-men, as possible.

He has had very little time to learn the system and practice with the team

Are you thinking they should just toss him in immediately when we're still in contention for the first seed?

Exactly. It would be different if the Flyers played a similar system but from what I understand, they had their D play man on man whereas Claude plays zone defense. Pretty big difference. I had a feeling he wasn't going to be in the lineup tonight.

Perhaps Chara finds DJ Bean to be annoying, ever think that might be a possibility?

It's also a rather annoying inquiry, as if Z is the arbiter of all things Slovak.

Pretty sure Chara isn't going to go Richie Incognito/Jonathan Martin on him when he gets here.

It's probably nothing... Chara and Chia had talks about Mez playing in Boston before the trade so if Chara didn't like him I'm sure he wouldn't be in Boston.

"Q: Were you whispering in Peter [Chiarelli]‘s ear to get him?

A: No."

But I was told by the reasonable side of HFboards different :sarcasm:

(Did I do that right? Is this thing on?)

Horrible job by Chia and co. at the deadline. We lose Seidenberg (a legit #2 D) over two months ago and replace him with a garbage player like Meszaros. Meszaros might be ok offensively but he's horrible defensively and that's not the type of D we need. We already have one guy who struggles in his own end but at least he's dynamite offensively. MacDonald, Schultz and Weaver all would've been better pickups. I honestly would've been fine with giving up our 1st for MacDonald. This team's time to win is now and I just can't see the D doing what they did last year without Seidenberg. You can't lose a warrior like Seidenberg, not replace him and expect things to be the same. I hope I get proved wrong but I give them an F grade for the deadline.

Neely sounded nervous when Felger brought it up a second ago...almost blind sided by this nugget....

Wonder if Peter thought that Z and Mez (I love nicknames) were cool/buds?

They did stink together in Soshee Russia and all along with the rest of the Slovaks

Sources tell me that Loui Eriksson was the one who recommended Meszaros. I'm also told that Chara had no sway in this decision, because he (along with Clode) lost the room years ago.

Lol wtf was that interview about? It's perfectly normal for reporters to give an opportunity to players on the team to talk up what the new players bring to the team. Weird.
