Fifa doesn't have the balls to go through with that. They just wanna get their hands on the AFA, the government sent officials to clean it up and Fifa got jealous sent their own guys. This is exactly why I laugh when people say there's no politics in football...it's all ****ign politics. Sadly, the players are caught in the mess.

ON second thought maybe this is all a ploy, to fix the AFA? The players have taken it upon themselves to fix the organization. If it's true, it's incredibly ballsy on their part. Risking the careers and such.

By the end of this maybe, Sabella comes back in some capacity and Simeone could hear the calls to save his NT? It would set up an amazing redemption story come 2018. **** it I'm back in.

Even if half of Argentina's team retires, they still could win the World Cup in Russia.

They're gonna lose Mascherano to retirement and their backline isn't good at all. They'll probably lose 4-0 to the Germans in the round of 16 or something again.

This is way too obvious to be anything else. There have been complaints about how AFA is run by corrupt people.

The sad thing is people are going to take this kind of interpretation: "LOL HURF DURF MESSI IS A CHOKING LOSER, HE CAN'T HANDLE DA PRESSUR. RONALDO >>>>> MESSI AINEC."

Argentina also is facing a FIFA ban due to their corrupt FA.

Wasn't he ticked off and publicly frustrated with their FA the day or two before the Final? I suspect this retirement lasts as long as it takes to clean out the AFA.

A childish overreaction following a disappointment. Messi showing why perhaps he is not a great champion after all.

Right yeah, it's childish overreaction. This clearly proves he's a loser...it's not like everything else is going to **** around him.

What about Masch must be a loser too.. Iniesta too?

You're on a roll today.

Both Mascherano and Iniesta are 32. Not 29. If Messi had retired following Russia 18 most people would probably see it as pretty understandable.

Zlatan played for Sweden til age 34 in spite of the team around him being crap and having next to no chance at achieving much.

Let's not kid ourselves here, this is because Messi can't get over the fact he's not a saint to Argentina fans back home, that they will always prefer Maradona in the end. It's petulance.

32,29,16 they're all going out after failing in the last couple of tournaments they were in.

It's about expectations...it's not about the team being crap. It's about corruption. There's no president, staff are not being paid, players are not being taken care of. That's the difference. Sweden just making it to a tournament is a win. Anything else is overachieving. It's trophy or bust for Argentina. The fact that your comparing the two is laughable and makes your ignorance painfully obvious.

You haven't the slightest clue as to why he exactly he's "quitting"... more likely than not it's a combination of factors and if he is quitting for real, it's well within his right.
