Thoughts on the guys skating on to the ice under a giant Coyote head like they do in San Jose and Nashville?

Gave me an idea... they let a REAL coyote or even a pack of em run across the ice before every game... kind of like some college football teams do with some animals.

Can't say how well the coyotes will run on the ice, though.

Or, in that same note... During an intermission, they put a cage in the middle of the ice and Howler has to fight a pack of coyotes in the style of Jackie Moon fighting a bear in Semi-Pro.

Reminded me of when the Bakersfield Condors brought a live bird/vulture on to the ice

Definitely worth the watch if you've never seen it. The whole thing was a clusterf***.

For those of us Athletic subscribers, here's a really good article looking at some of the recent history of private vs. public funded arenas, and where we are trending. It's interesting how at the end of the article they said that governments are starting to look at stadiums as casinos and that gambling could completely change in game viewing. Makes me think that building with the tribe could be very intriguing.
As the Joe and the Palace are demolished, public cash for...

I ask this knowing downtown Toronto is a total pain in the ass for traffic so gotta figure downtown Phoenix is the same (around Talking Stick, for example).

TSRA wasn't bad 1997-2003, even weeknights, because getting there was inbound when the bad traffic was outbound. From the East: 10 to 17 to 7th street, couple miles north, park South of the arena, easy peasy. I knew the guy whose produce warehouse I parked at for $5 on a first name basis.

Today....getting to the 10 17 split is a bit of a delay now, but I don't know if it would be worse after that or not.

I remember some of those warehouses charging $20. I would use the Collier Center building for parking. Easy to get in there..... and it ran about $7 back then, plus it's a short walk to both Chase and TSRA.

Westbound I-10 during the afternoon rush hour...... from the I-10/I-17 split all the way out to 51st Ave...... forget about it. It's usually a parking lot. (BTW.... the new Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway opening this fall bypasses all of it. ;)) Eastbound I-10 from the west valley going up to the SR-51/Loop 202 interchange (aka Mini Stack) usualy flows well.

I-17 and SR 51 inbound each morning the same..... and outbound in the afternoons. Same with the Loop 202 Santan Freeway.

I can attest to this, living 2 hours away from Toronto - but when I went to see the Coyotes play there this past season, I'd leave my place around 3pm for a 7pm game start....takes about an hour and a half to reach the 'border' of the GTA, and then about another hour and a half just to get downtown. No matter which road you take, you just can't get there quickly.....Toronto traffic is maddening.

That's why I'm so intrigued with any talk about whether the Coyotes play at GRA or another arena closer to downtown....I see both sides of it. Personally, I think they can (and should) make it work at GRA.
As has been discussed ad nauseum here, with everything they've been through in the last decade plus their lack of on ice success, they've still been able to get 70% attendance (average) - but winning will fix this. Guaranteed.
Hell, the Senators couldn't sell out their barn when they made it to the Conference Final a few years ago. I'm confident GRA would've been sold out if they made it that far.

SCOTTSDALE. 101 and 202 or maybe a little more north by talking stick

Downtown blows
I imagine it gets built in that 202 red mountain/101 area. Maybe with the Natives?
I dont like a downtown option. I thought the light rail was a good option to Dback games until I rode on it. No thanks.

If the choice is downtown Phoenix or somewhere East of that (Scottsdale, Salt River, ASU, etc.), what's the preference?

Scottsdale/Tempe, 100%, I don't care how much longer it takes me to drive there. Downtown is a logistical nightmare in comparison to just grabbing the Loop 101.

If there was any sort of actual effective mass transit option, I might think differently.
