a decent, but by no means complete assessment of the state of affairs with the Ottawa Senators in Macleans:

The Ottawa Senators enter the 'Tyson Zone' - Macleans.ca
Pretty brief and accurate summary of the state of affairs in Ottawa right now. Fans, players, and to some extent the management, are being held hostage by Melnyk's vise-grip on the team. He fails to understand the basic f**king business principle that you have to spend money to make money. What Melnyk wants is for Dorion (or whomever his puppet of the week is) to somehow buy and trade players like penny stocks in the hope of somehow cashing in big on some undervalued under-performing players that will catapult us onto the Stanley Cup.

Mr. Melnyk, if the financial state of the team concerns you (as it should), the smart business-minded individual would spend more money improving the on-ice product and fan experience to help drive up revenue and increase short and long-term interest in your team. Sectioning off seats, jacking up parking and ticket prices, and refusing to spend money on better players, and bigger contracts is NOT how you entice fans to spend more of our hard earned dollars.

Seriously, nobody in their goddamn mind is going to want to drive 45 minutes to Kanata in traffic, pay $20 to park, $40-50 to eat, only to spend another 2 and a half hours sitting in an area sectioned off with black tarp, watching a half-assed AHL level hockey team compete for a 1st round pick WE DON'T EVEN HAVE....
