with Bob's list out and Kotka in the final top 5 we can already see a swap between AZ and MTL, it's the smart thing to do for both team needs.

So, let's discuss the trade proposal.
For my part I think it will go this way:

To MTL:
-5ov
-55th

To AZ:
-3ov

I don't like it. If you want Kotkaniemi, you select him. I wouldn't give Ottawa a chance to steal "our guy".

almost no chance Ottawa does that.
- They are high on tkachuk but can still go for Zadina
- they have good Center prospects
- they didn't invite Kotka for a private dinner like the habs and wings did.

If you are worried about the Sens taking Kotkaniemi, work a deal with them to give them a future pick for not taking Kotkaniemi. If they say no, then you know something is up. If they say yes, who cares about giving up a future 5th or 6th round pick and it guarantees you get the guy you want. Pretty sure the Sens go after one of Zadina, Dobson, or Tkachuk.

Habs seem high on Dobson too. I think those three are all in the same tier for them, but if not they should not risk it and take BPA.

They might. All the rumblings now are Kotkaniemi though.

The idea is both the Sens and Coyotes want Zadina. So if the Coyotes want him and give us a future 2nd, then we make the deal. Or the Sens make a deal with us instead to guarantee they get Zadina.

Just like Kotkaniemi is growing on the Habs so could he with Ottawa, and it's not rare that surprises are revealed on draft day. IMO you don't take the risk, I stress that its just my opinion.

I would def take the risk if Marc talked with Dorion (which they will) they are good friend too. It's def a risk but I highly doubt there will be some kind of backstab.
they can also trade with Ottawa.

It's possible for sure but not probable. Get on the phone and tell them our plans. We have a deal to trade down with the Coyotes and we want Kotkaniemi. What future pick ensures the Sens don't take Kotkaniemi? They might say they want Zadina instead and then we tell them to match the Coyotes offer and you have him. If they get difficult, take Kotkaniemi 3rd.

You will find out very quick what the Sens plans are. If they take the 5th or 6th round future pick, then all of the Habs, Sens, and Coyotes are happy. If they get difficult and are vague, you know something is up. That's how I would handle it.

I can't see Ottawa taking Kotkaniemi. This makes sense if Arizona wants Zadina. If they don't though they could easily take Tkachuck at 5 instead. They trade Domi for a more skilled potential C in Galcenyuk and then immediately replace Domi's grit with Tkachuck.

Agreed. I think the individual team rankings are going to vary highly from #3 to #10. Kotkaniemi going from #10 to #5 in Bob's draft ranking compilations suggest he's rising up many team draft boards.

If Montreal doesn't really care which of the players in that range they get then trading down could make sense. If they have Zadina, Tkachuk or Kotkaniemi as their target then they should just draft them at #3.

Zadina, Kotkaniemi, and Dobson are my targets. But Kotkaniemi is the guy I want 1st.
