At odds with team management, Defenceman Bryan McCabe is rumoured to have requested a trade from the St. Louis Blues.

“He asked to be traded and they would move him for the right priceâ€, stated a team insider who preferred to remain anonymous. “McCabe could win the Norris trophy this year under the new rules, so there shouldn’t be any shortage of interest.â€

While part of the reason may be attributed to the fact McCabe is behind both Chris Pronger and Zdeno Chara on the depth chart, there are reports McCabe and coach Marc Crawford engaged in a heated exchange during training camp when McCabe wore a Toronto Maple Leafs practice jersey during off-ice work-outs, one supposedly worn by long-time Maple Leaf Wendel Clark and given to McCabe in the off-season as a gift.

“I can’t say any of the team really supported what Bryan did.â€, stated an anonymous team mate.

Both McCabe and Crawford refused to comment on the alleged incident.

“What happens in-house, will stay in-houseâ€, said Crawford.

General Manager Nick Quain is alleged to have agreed to potentially accommodate the trade given his disdain for everything Toronto Maple Leaf. The team is supposedly looking for a young NHL ready defencemen, plus a prospect or pick.

McCabe is currently under contract for the next two years at a very reasonable $1.875 million per year.
