The leafs have a lot of cap space even when Nylander signs for 6.75 x 6 years. What would it take for the Leafs to pick up Duchene as a rental for the season?

How about a 1st round pick in 2019, and a young roster player?

This would give the Leafs excellent C dept - Matthews, Tavares, Kadri and Duchene

No from the Leafs. They'll have cap space, but part of it needs to be set aside for Matthews and Marner's bonuses, so they don't cost against the cap next season.

Duchene as 4C? Well....that's not stupid at all....

...and Matt Duchene, minus a 2019 1st round pick.

We don't need more offense. Trading for rentals is stupid. Just nothing about this makes any sense. Including the fact that Dorian would lose a deal on purpose rather than trading him to us.

This wouldn't be smart for the leafs, I doubt duchenne would play enough minutes to even be worth it. Maybe a superstar winger as a rental. But what they really need is a defenseman.

Silly Leafer. We're also going to trade for Eric Staal. Duchene is going to be our 5C waiting in the press box for injuries. Can never have too much depth.
Lol...makes perfect sense. Should look at moving some D for more center depth!!

No need for Duchene whatsoever, if the leafs trade for a forward it’ll be for a big power forward

Of all the teams that don't need an expensive centre/left wingers it's the Leafs. And no the Leafs don't have cap after Nylander signs. Leafs need to go into 2019/20 with no Perf Bonus carryover

I’d do a first for Duchene. He’d fit in quite well at LW on the Tavares line. Leafs should absolutely be in the rental market, and if you can pick up a Panarin/Eberle/Duchene, you do it regardless of depth.

No need for Duchene, we'd have interest in Stone if the price is right though (both by trade and what he's willing to sign for).

You guys have the 2nd/3rd best center depth in the league, you dont need more centers. Save the assets for a dman, if one doesn't become available, draft elc talent for the future.

Why? Leafs need several young effective NHLers on ELC to stay competitive? Not to mention the Leafs need D, not forwards. This makes no sense.

The last team in the NHL that would want or needs Duchene is Toronto. They have arguably the best C depth in the NHL. At worst 2nd best behind Pittsburgh. This is beyond pointless.

do we need him though?

I didnt say we have no space for him, or he wouldnt make the team. I said NO NEED for him. NO NEED.

We do need him, he's a significant upgrade over Hyman, Marleau and Johnsson. If a first is all it takes, it's worth it. Late first rounders are really overvalued anyway, our late 2nd would provide a similarish level prospect.

If thats the case, why not trade for a rental, veteran d-man who can kill penalties and solidify the back end.

Or, a big, physical forward who can help in the playoffs?

We have a ton of skill and speed. We dont need a guy like duchene at this point.

Four years ago, I would have been cheering in the streets if we got a centre of his caliber to play with Phil, crazy how much has changed since then

What? Alot of draft research shows theres little difference between pick 29 and 59.
