I know it might sound far fetched with the way he left but the guy is in love with Denver.
    - Avs biggest need right now is a #2C.
    - They’ll have the cap room.
    - Matt stated many times yesterday how much he loves Denver.
    - His wife is from there
    - He wants his kid to be born there
    - He has a house there and spent a chunk of the offseason there.
    - Grew up a huge Avalanche fan
    - When he got traded he said he might be back one day.
    - He still communicates with most of the guys. Even when so far as to text them all individually last year including Sakic and the coaching staff to congratulate them on such. Successful year.

Then to top it off, after the Sens got smoked by the Avs last night the dude sends out a tweet thanking the Avs fans and finishes it off by saying “Once an Av, always an Av”. That probably wasn’t loved by the Sens PR team.

So yeah. Probably a bit of a reach considering how things ended. Probably not a direction either side wants to go. Especially if the Avs luck into Jack Hughes with the Senators pick. But who knows, would be quite the addition to a great young team.

If we luck into Hughes I don't think we need him but If we get Kakko, then Duchene would be great fit.

Duchene coming back would be crazy.

He's going to Nashville because he likes country music.

Haven't Sens fans been through enough. I hope they can sign him or trade him at the deadline for something good.

If Duchene makes it to free agency I'd welcome him back in Colorado. It's unlikely the Avs would be able to add another player of his caliber with it costing a fortune. Something tells me if Duchene did make it to free agency some team would throw him a contract he couldn't turn down and one that the Avs shouldn't match.

Be kind of wild if they ended up getting him back after getting Ottawa’s first.

I dunno if that bridge has been burned or not. Seems like the players for the most part were pretty welcoming to him returning last night but I still dont know how well it would sit with them knowing he left the team because he thought they were going to suck for a while, then just comes back when he realizes they actually wont suck.

I'd just rather target someone else in free agency but he would be a good fit and if we did sign him I'd probably be ok with it. Even though I dont like the way he left the team and essentially quit on the boys 2 years ago.

I'm torn. He used to be my favorite player, was for so many years. I loved watching him play. Our possibly biggest need is 2C and he is currently very high end 2C IMO.

But I'm not sure if there is too much bad blood there between him and the leaders of the current locker room. He somewhat threw Avs under the bus by doubting their ability to turn it around in the next couple of years. Also, his game is based on his speed, which he will start losing in the following years. He might demand too much term and money.

I love me some Duchene but if we are in this "bring some old boys back to the club" conversation, I'd rather repatriate ROR. just as farfetched as Duchene but a better fit.

ROR would cost assets. Duchene would cost money. Although I agree, ROR would be better fit as a 2C.

ROR wouldn’t have cost assets if we tried to get him from Buffalo. We could packed a bunch of garbage in one pile and sent it over kinda like St. Louis did.

True, but he isn't with the Sabres anymore. I'd easily had given the same value STL did to bring ROR to play for us again.

The only way that would happen is if he doesn’t sign with Ott and the team Ott trades him to doesn’t resign him. I highly doubt they will wait until after TDL to sort this out.

Pretty sure Duchene has mentioned specifically that seeing Tavares go all the way to July 1 opened his eyes and that it’s intriguing. Something along those lines anyway.

If he gets traded Ottawa will get a haul for him at the deadline. Dude is a real good hockey player.

A ROR - Stastny - Dutchy 2nd line would help take some attention off the bottle kids

    ...just saying...

I don't think Duchene hits the market. or in other words, for Sens fans sake, I hope their management won't let that happen.

    Reaching.

Why would someone care if he says something nice about the team he used to play for?

Karlsson said that Ottawa "will always be his home". Does that mean he just gave the finger to San Jose?

No, it's just nice things hockey players say.

It would certainly be a juicy plot twist, given the manner in which he left...

I could certainly see it. Colorado patches a major hole in their top-6, and has the cap space to cover it.

If it shakes out that way, man did Ottawa get ****ing played.

I don't think ROR is farfetched as Duchene, it's far more farfetched. Duchene will be a free agent and has interest in Colorado.
