This is about the last thing from my youth that I expected to see brought back. It looks recognizably similar to the original cartoon, so I'll probably watch and see if it gives me some nostalgia. I should probably re-visit some of the original cartoon first, though, since it's been about 30 years.

I used to love the show as a kid, but tried to watch a few episodes on YT and found it creepy as hell.

I generally find most cartoons creepy now that I’m older, so I guess my opinion is slightly skewered.

Yeah, I've seen clips here and there over the years and have usually come away with the impression that it's not as cool as I remember and is cheesier than I remember. I loved it at the time, though. I even had the action figure and dragged my poor mom to the movie. I guess that it was the male role model effect and you had to be a 10yo in the 80s to love it... and still act like a 10yo today to revive it. ;)

The production quality of children's television is just horrible, generation after generation. Things which are mesmerizing to a kid are like nails on chalkboard to everyone else.

Not too long ago, I was at a bar that for some reason was showing an old episode of Silverhawks. I was just astonished at how low the quality was, even compared to what I remembered.

Old GI Joe and Transformers cartoons are the same way, just dreadful production value.

There actually have already been 2 reboots.. there was a pretty good one in 2002, that seems unfortunately forgotten. It had artwork very similar to this imminent reboot. And it did a good job creating back story that was absent from the original series..
The other (animé style) reboot dropped in the early 90s, and was very far off from the spirit of the original.. it had a leaner, pony-tailed He-man :thumbd:

Ya I was big into He-Man as a kid and had all the cool stuff like Skull Mt (?) and Stinkor.

My friends and I years later wondered what toxic shit they used to make Stinkor reek so bad that even 30 years later the figure still smelled.

Couldn’t agree more.

I’ve checked out most of the cartoons I watched as a kid and couldn’t believe how creepy and/or corny they were.

Thundercats, Smurfs, Inspector Gadget (*shiver*), Darkwing Duck, Real Ghostbusters (wtf!).

Thankfully the creepiest one I can’t remember the name - some weird duck or something that lived in a creepy ass castle...he was some kind of creepy super hero I think.

These cartoons were pure nightmare fuel. I’m surprised we didn’t all grow up to be a serial killers.

Count Duckula!

I’d say spare yourself and don’t look it up on YT... but you know you’re gonna

That was the name of that creepy mofo!

I think Liquid Television in the early 90s is what finally woke me up to how creepy cartoons are - that stuff was the ultimate nightmare fuel and my bro had it on all the damn time.

I learned of that 2002 reboot when I was looking up the franchise yesterday. It was actually created by the creator of the 80s cartoon. That's why it looked similar and added to the characters' backstories without taking anything away.

I just googled Stinkor and seeing the toy again brought back a memory of smelling it as a kid (probably just through the packaging in the store, but that was enough). They were apparently going for a skunk smell and must've achieved it.

I just googled Stinkor and received an unpleasant flashback memory of smelling him as a kid (probably just through the packaging in the store, but that was enough to not want the figure). They were undoubtedly going for a skunk smell and they must've achieved it.

I have no idea what you're talking about, but Wikipedia says: "chemically treated with patchouli oil to smell musky". I hate patchouli!

I distinctly remember the Stinkor smell (yes, my parents bought it for some reason). It definitely had that patchouli/incense heaviness, but in a sort of factory/chemical way.

As an adult, I occasionally run across a smell that triggers the memory of 80s action figures. It’s basically the smell of a factory floor.

Stinkor was in his own reek universe, but He-Man toys had the most distinctive smell from any toys I played with as a kid.

My cousin was the first of us to get He-Man toys for his birthday. So my bro and I wanted them so badly after that, but I’ll never forget that smell when my cousin opened them up, and every time after that I unpacked one.

I know that exact smell.

At the time Japanese animation was new in America. Most toys needed an accompanying show to push sales. They pumped the shows out so fast because they always had to stay current with newest toy.

About 5 years ago I saw this really cool documentary on Master's of the Universe.

Thanks. I looked it up and found the whole 90-minute documentary, albeit in low quality:

If that gets removed or anyone wants to watch it in higher quality, it looks like it's also on Netflix in up to 4K.
