He definitely stood out today. Kid can freaking skate. Very creative player too, made some beautiful passes. While he didn't score he had 2-3 strong scoring opportunities, he was just missing this finish.

This kid has some potential, that's for sure.

Repeating myself from the other thread, but I wouldn't read much into what we're seeing right now. I can't remember a prospect of ours who was so completely upside-heavy. He's built like a giraffe, looks like a pre-teen, and seems almost afraid to shoot the puck. He'll be a completely different guy by the time he's 22. The only thing I'd hang my hat on right now is that he's physically gifted and can probably be as good as he wants to be.

Bingo, plus he was absolutely one of the best skaters on the ice today, both speed and agility.

Yep. I wouldn't say that he is ready to play with the Hurricanes this year, for sure. Wouldn't bet on anything beyond that. He doesn't look like any more of a giraffe to me than Mitch Marner does, though.

I didn't find any other thread about this player.

I just found a few days old czech article VIDEO: Nečas na mučidlech. Talent ukázal, jak se připravuje na NHL - iDNES.cz about Necas and his summer preseason training (with video inside - skip two ads at the beginning).
One interesting fact from this article is 2 years ago Necas weight was 64kg and during this summer he's on 86kg (188cm). Not bad I'd say.

This article and video is from end of June and at the end of that video his conditioning coach is talking about their plans for the rest of summer. And he thinks Martin will be around 90kg before start of the season (he thinks Martin should add another 4kg of muscles)

Between Necas and Aho, our C situation could look dramatically different this time next year. Between those 2, I really do think we could potentially have 2 1Cs already on the roster.

I read on another site a poster discussed the Canes moving away from 1st, 2nd, etc. view of forward lines. With Aho and Necas, this poster argued that Carolina can have two scoring lines, Staal centering what was termed a "disruption" line, and then an all-purpose line (basically three forwards who had some offense and could play on one or both special teams). If Zykov/Aho/TT picks up where it left off and Necas/Svechnikov find chemistry, then two scoring lines makes a lot of sense.

So Scott Wheeler’s article today is the 50 top prospects list. Svech is 3, Necas is 9. He calls him a boom or bust prospect who could possibly be a perimeter depth creator of offense or a stud if he fills out and sticks at center. Says he slows the play down well but seems hesitant to drive the center lane. Nothing else on either player was different from anything else said.

Fox was later in the top 50, and Foegele/Wallmark/Mckeown/Bean/Kooks are in the honorable mentions.

He thinks Fox is an high end playmaker, though not a real scorer.

I agree with Wheeler on the boom or bust part, personally I'm not as high on Necas as most of this board. The speed and skill is tantalizing for sure, but I'm not as sold on him turning that into consistent production and hitting his ceiling vs becoming a complimentary perimeter player that never scores as much as it appears he should. I hope he makes me look stupid though

I haven't seen nearly enough off Necas to say whether he's going to be a 1st liner or 2nd liner. In the brief time I have seen him he looks like he has the tools to be a high end forward, maybe more so than any forward we've drafted before him in the last several years. Will he put it all together? Hard to say. A lot like Lindholm in that regard, although they were/are not similar as prospects.

the thing that really solidifies Necas’ potential in my estimation is that because of the way he plays, he won’t necessarily have to develop a god-tier shot to be productive. he’ll generate scoring chances at a good rate, and put himself in position to get goals by way of skating into high danger scoring chances at a higher rate than other players.

His shot is alright but he does seem a bit too hesitant sometimes (against men, that's it), defering to his linemates more often than you'd like to see. He'd definitely use to show more confidence/arrogance in some situations but I believe it's going to get better as he continues to mature and gets more muscle because he's absolutely showed a game changing ability and knack for big plays at pro level. Indeed, he was improving this over the course of the last season but still, the point stands. People should not underestimate though how difficult Extraliga is for young players. A lot of older, slower but physically mature, smart, tactically aware and experienced players with significant obstruction allowed.

I'm curious to see how he manages to improve his two-way play too because this past season with Brno, his line was a bit of a liability in this area. It wasn't always his fault but he's got certainly something to work on here.

Personally though, I think he's going to be amazing. He's got some issues in his game but they can be fixed in a year or two with good coaching. Not sure I'd call him a boom or bust prospect. There's no guarantee he reaches his full potential, of course, but I find it hard not to see him at the very least as a middle six forward in the long run, perimeter or not. I have him as a 25-50-75 center in his prime.

The slows the play down thing makes me think of Stillman, who had a very long and productive career without ever having any real top end physical talents by being able to set plays up and feed the puck very well. If Necas can develop that game as an insurance policy, even if he never develops the strength to be a Crosby he'll still be an incredibly valuable player. If he doesn't develop that- well, it's Lindholm 2.0. Frustrating perimeter guy who you perpetually think should be able to do more and never does.

I'd take that. I loved Stiller. Hopefully he'll be that and a little more. I'm excited about this kid, and so glad we get to see him grow.
