One of the most patheric sights was the play where the Leafs were mucking it up 4 vs 6 in Bostons crease while he watched from 30 feet away...then suddenly tiny Marchand sees him and skates all the way up to him and Marner looks like he's going to piss himself and he looks at the ref looking for help as Marchand $%$#s wirh him. Same thing happened the year before vs Panthers when Reilly got filled in from behind after the whistle and Marner tried to skate by the ensuing scrum but was pushed back into it by Tkachuk. Lol what a joke of a teammate, and he wears and A!

The fact he wears an A is troubling enough. Whoever signs him next better think twice about giving him a letter.

Matty stands still waiting for the puck instead of moving around.
JT stands off to the side of the slot looking for a rebound or deflection instead of screening.
Mitch stands in the corner looking to make the impossible pass to Matty.
Mo doesn't have a dangerous shot (unless someone is screening).
Willy stands at the point passing it back and forth with Mo and Matty and occasionally shooting at an unscreened goalie.
Neither Woll not Sammy ever join the rush.
They do very little to break down the defence . Only guy moving at all half the time is the guy with the puck . Not sure who's to blame though . To me it's on the coaches to get get them moving , they all easily have the skills to pass through the box ect .
Felt for a long time that pp needs to be broken into 2 units and have more meat and potatoes on each unit . It's not a skills competition .
Also puck needs to be moving a lot quicker . That's on Marner especially but to do that the other guys need to be moving their feet faster .
In the playoffs especially , just jam the damn net and get the puck on it. Most goals are scored on scrambles it seems . Leafs try to often to pass it in or like you said take a unscreened shot the goalies out and squareed up to . Very low chance of scoring like that and cost us usually in them icing it .

Marner was injured March 4 vs Boston. Domi subsequently played with Matthews the next 17 games. In those 17 games Domi produced 15 even strength points. That's a 72 point pace at even strength. If Matthews props Domi up to that level of production, just how good is Marner, who was a 60 point player before playing with 27 year old two time hart nominee Tavares and Auston Matthew? Kapanen and Johnssons most productive seasons were with Matthews like 6 years ago, one could argue they've hardly been NHL players since.

There is a reason Matthews won the Ted Lindsay and is a finalist this year over Mcdavid...Nhl players recognize his incredible talent.

Garland is smaller than marner but plays fearless.
Leafs radio brought this up a day or two after Leafs lost the series. They brought up guys like Wyatt Johnson and Braden Point being small players but who play big and score in playoffs.

And watching Dallas games, there's this super small rookie named Stankoven (Theo Fleury size) who is zooming around fighting for pucks and shooting and scoring. You'll never see Marner doing this.

Marner just isnt that kind of player. He's a perimeter player who passes, doesn't play in the middle fighting for position and doesn't like getting hit mucking along the boards or corners for pucks.

Thats why he'll always fail in the playoffs.

But in the regular season playing crap teams and less intensity than playoffs, he is a reliable 90+ pt scorer.

Good for regular season pools. Bad for playoff pools too!

Leafs Home Board

Mitch Marner's security detail has become very active on Instagram, defending him while making questionable comments about his teammates, leading some to believe that Marner may finally want out.

During the season, while recovering from his ankle sprain, Marner made some comments towards the members of the Toronto media that were not received all that well and they seemed to be the beginning of a feud taking place behind the scenes. Marner did not speak after the Leafs Game 7 loss to the Boston Bruins and made only a brief appearance at Monday's end of season interviews.

Recently, The Athletic's James Mirtle revealed that Marner hired private security and has only granted permission to certain reporters to speak to him. Mirtle also claimed that Marner's security detail has made it a point to try to intimidate certain members of the media in Toronto.

It appears that things have escalated as his private security «Rocket Security» is now going to battle online to defend his honour on Instagram comment sections. Not only that, but the account has also called out some of Marner's own teammates.

Swap contracts --- Draisaitl ... marner

Can Leafs even decide to keep him with a raise?

I don't know how they can do it and make progress?

2025--->

Matthews - 13.2
marner - 11.6
Nylander - 11.5
Tavares - 6.9

I don't see how they build a team around that that would be any better than today?
Draisatl will need 15-16 on the next deal at the end of next season

Knies is turning into a real big boy hockey player who depending on usage could be a 25 -30 goal man next season and will require the contract to go along with it. 8-9 maybe?

Then we are hunting a Montour or someone like Pesce who's going to want Reilly money or more

The only way it works is if the big boys go whole hog and a goalie puts on his Dom Hasek costume and has a run. Problem is the big boys who are currently here have never gotten close to their ability to dominate(Will has been closest)

Are any of those things even remotely untrue?

This is starting to get uglier than my first divorce.

Up yours Marner. The media pampered your ass for years. Now that it looks like you're the odd one out crybaby's gotta cry.

😭😭😭

Whether this was authorized by Marner or not the optics are terrible. Thanks for tanking your trade value on the way out dumb ass. I hope it hurts you in both where you go and how much they pay you.

Shooting off your foot while you're shooting off your mouth is a real special talent.

So much for the statue on legends row. Keep it up and you'll be lucky if they retire your jersey number. You're lucky Tucker let you wear it to begin with.

All you have to do now is take down anything Leafs related on your social media account and we can all kiss your ass goodbye.

Have you guys seen the realistic trade options due to Gary Bettmans horribly ran league? How is trading Marner still a thing?

If he doesn't put up points at least he will help limit the opp to 1-2 goals in elimination games so that the rest of the team can win it offensively. You're not going to find that impact with the tier of players you're diving into by trading him. If Leafs were up 3-1 heading into the 3rd from game 5 and onwards you already know we're not blowing that lead the way we played. Marner going head to head with tough QoC is a significant reason for that. Pasta sucks when he has to face Marners line, for example (Yeah yeah OT, I'm talking overall)

But then again half this place thinks the soft ass Canes can beat the Leafs in a playoff Series so not gonna waste my breath trying to convince people otherwise.

Some act like we're ditching Wayne Gretzky here. You seriously think Marner's playoffs will improve under a new coach? l have a bridge to sell.

It wasn't his first playoffs.

Plus new coach won't be Keefe that is afraid to tell Mitch off because he might cry on the bench or to the media!

Mitch faithfuls, what is it that Mitch needs to hear from the new coach? "Stop eff*ing crying bruh !" ? "Don't be scared Mitch! "?

Some of these posters expect movie sh*t type of inspiring speech to finally reach the Mitch ! 😂😂

I'm hesitant to believe Marners offensive failures would translate to all 4 Series in a year we win the cup. He would for sure tear at least 2 Series up if we went that far. When he does suck we can still push 7 games and grind it out to the last second.

For context, Brayden Point had zero points in the last 4 games against the Habs in their Cup win. 2 of the games featured 0 shots. It happens.

Don't know if I can jump on the trade bandwagon with everyone. Feels safer to fix holes around the 3 amigos

Point has been a mediocre playoff performer since the last series of 20/21. His last good series was Islanders of that year.

They'll say its okay because he went all out to win 2 Cups. Nothing in the tank now.....He's still young! His prime only just began after their last cup win.

News flash...our Stars in their prime still. We are fully capable of scattering 2 Cup wins within all those early exits. Just doing it reverse of Tampa.

Covid Cups at that. They've been relatively crap within regular programming.

There are no results for us yet, but ditching any of the 3 stars will most likely set us back even further.

Vancouver calls EP Marner the Vancouver version, or Marner light, i say lets wait until he has played in 6 more playoffs. He might even turn it around this playoff.

An even if EP clearly hated the questions , and wanted to kill somone he at least said the words "I need to be better".

But also on a fans note. the fans chanted " Go Petey Go" , would that ever happen here, " Go away Marner Go away!" would be more a Leafy way. Would be interesting to see if a support of that kind would help him while struggeling.

The guy is a monster in the regular season
Not really. He has yet to make 100 points playing with one of the best goal scorers ever and being given the best opportunity of PP time.
We have to stop over valuing players.
He is a decent player when the games are going easy but goes missing when the going gets tough. In no world is he worth what he is going to want on his next contract.

Our stars have proved nothing. 8 years of them crapping the bed in the playoff and you think they will magically turn it around.
Marners own team mates ripping on him on the bench should tell you all you need to know

Unfortunately it’s the 4 amigos for 1 more year. Serious question here, are you comfortable giving Marner 12 plus for 8 more years?
