who do you take?

Nylander and Marner are both in their 2nd seasons coming off 61pt rookie years.
Horvat is in his 4th season after setting a career high of 51pts in his 3rd year.
Boeser is an early candidate for rookie of the year.

to be fair i didnt include the leafs best player (AM34) for fear of it getting shutdown early.
I also considered making it the leafs 2nd and 3rd best young forwards vs the nucks (Horvat/Boeser + Baertschi)
but i figured that woulda been a landslide too.

I think this one should be close. It likely wouldn't have been a month ago but Boeser has had a great start

He has played 28 games

Edit: for the poll, it's close, I don't like Marner as much as Horvat but I like Nylander a bit more than Boeser as of right now, see how the rest of the year plays out.

funny, I have probably the opposite feeling

I wouldnt trade Marner for Horvat but I think I might just do Willy for Boeser

Guess it just depends on team need, I like Pettersson over Marner and I think Horvat would be a better complementary player to him for the Canucks.

Trying to be objective, I think you have to go with the Leafs duo due to their talent and what they've proven so far. It's possible neither Canuck ever really goes much beyond the point totals the Leafs duo put up as rookies. Particularly Horvat, who's ceiling is probably in that 60-65 point range, barring a particularly lucky career year. I really like Bo and Brock though and I don't think the Leafs duo are so much better that I would give up the homer aspect of wanting to keep them and see what they become like I would if it was Matthews and Nylander/Marner. The two of them also bring skillsets that the Canucks have been sorely lacking even in their recent good periods, with Bo's ability to take the puck to the net and Boeser's ability to score from distance, both of which are tough to find. Nylander and Marner might be better players, but if (a big if obviously) Pettersson can be a similar type of skilled all around offensive player, I like the potential mix of skillsets the team could have going forward.

that is selling Marner incredibly short. Petttersson is having a big Draft+1 but Marner pretty much won every CHL award possible at the same age and then threw up 61pts in 77 games in the NHL as a rookie.

I think the Nucks missed the boat big time on a couple picks (Virtanen and Juolevi)
take your pick between Nylander/Ehlers/Larkin + Tkachuk/Keller/McAvoy
team would be scary good if they werent so inept at the draft table, shoutout for Boeser though

Yeah I mean I'm not saying Marner isn't good, I just think Pettersson's absolute ceiling is slightly higher, while it's probably more likely that Marner will reach his. Yeah, the Virtanen pick sucks and Juolevi was confusing then and I'd have preferred any of Keller, Tkachuk or Sergachev, but he's been lighting it up this season so it stings a little less.

The Boeser factor makes this poll so hard because we just don't know what he is yet. We don't exactly know what the Leafs players will be either, but we have a better idea.

We know Boeser is good, but he's not a 90pt player today (which is what his pace is). I won't vote because of this but I will say that Boeser has the highest goal-scoring ceiling of all these players. So if he hits that ceiling then I think it could be our duo but tbh our guys are in tough vs. two incredibly skilled players in Marner and Nylander.

Good poll but I think we just have to wait.

Boeser is the best player of the bunch, and Horvat is the worst

I go with Leafs duo

This is that shiny new toy thing that people on this board constantly fall into.
I don't know how Nylander and Marner are considered better players than Horvat, when he's putting up equal or more points than either of them, while also playing an all-purpose 1C role for Vancouver. I don't think he's a perfect 1C, but he's not doing bad in that role. It's funny how Leafs folks were quick last year to point at Matthews playing C over Laine, but are super quick at just ignoring it here.

It's the Vancouver duo, and it's not close. These guys are already a top line.

This post wasn’t what I was expecting after reading the first sentence.

Here's my thought process:

Horvat: You already have a 1C. who is playing the role of 1C in Vancouver already (Probably a 1B in a perfect world)
Boeser: You have a guy playing like an elite winger, who if he pans out, will be an elite winger. The guy's been an elite winger in every league he's been in, but this is also his rookie season.
Marner: You have a guy playing like a good top 6 winger, who if he pans out, will be an elite winger.
Nylander: You have a guy playing like a PP specialist middle 6 winger, who if he pans out, will be an elite winger.

You take a 1C and Elite wing over a couple of them. If this was Matthews + one of the other guys, it'd be no question, but the fact Horvat's a centre, a pure centre, and putting up similar points as the two wingers he's opposing... I mean, this shouldn't be close..
