Marner’s Agent made it seem like there’s at least a chance a deal could happen prior to the season. Also seems like they will revisit things at the end of the year if no deal happens now

Let's get this nylander thing then done. .. giddy up... if they had both them signed by opening night that would be amazing.

He did say during that interview a couple of times that they've had productive talks with Dubas. Would be nice to get this done along with Willy before the season and get this out of the way.

Nylander isn't stopping Marner from signing, if marner was serious about signing before the season we would be hearing about how close they are. In fact signing marner now, assuming its for like $7M will help massively with nylanders contract.

"We've had productive discussions..."

AKA: We've given them our pie-in-the-sky first ripoff number and they've given us their laughable insulting lowball counter.

"Great first meeting... let's talk again next week!"

Probably true ... but it sounds a hell of a lot more encouraging then the gross situation .

Any quotes from him(Gross)? As in anytime in the last year? Not that he has to say shit... just curious.

what do you expect the agent to say here? "nah we are holding out for Max $$$"? If Marner wants to sign he will sign, but he has the ;luxury of putting up serious numbers this season with JT if he wasn't to max his next contract he will wait, there is no way the leafs will pay him any more than $7.5 before he plays this season that's just stupid

Everyone thinks Marner will be a star, point a game play in all situations guy. No savings signing him now. Only savings is if him being a smallish guy gets knicked with injuries and questions of durability creep in bringing down his overall contract number. I don't wish that on him but it could happen. No savings to be had signing him now. He was a 4th line player trying to find himself this time last year.

Not disagreeing... just curious if Gross has ever said anything. Of course they're going to say everything is rainbows and flowers. Just trying to be optimistic.

Will be very smart of Dubas to sign him now, but if Marner’s agent is smart (and I believe he has a very tough reputation) at all he won’t sign anything until he sees end of season point totals. I can see the two laying down some minor contract details now but won’t expect a signing anytime soon

they'll regret it, very good chance he gets $10M x 8 next summer. what if he wins the Art Ross? try $12M.

The only thing is .. which I meant to add in an above post... but like everyone knows... yeah Marner will get a big payday... but if you ever get injured this year for even a quarter of the season or more... that could significantly change things.

It's great to bet on yourself and he deserves a big raise... 9 million is what some people are saying... even 10 .. which I think is a bit of a stretch ... if we're hoping Matthews stays around 11.

Amazing player, but it's safe to take 8.5 to 9 now for 7 or 8 years and you're still set then no matter what. Just trying to look at it another way. 8.75 for 8 even is 70 million. Pretty good coming out of your ELC.
