I would keep Boro on a 3 year deal and transition him to player development (either in the 3rd year or immediately after).

They mentioned it a few times on the radio, jokingly, about how Mark might have to leave mid-game if he gets a call about his wife going into labour.
And there's of course the Vancouver robbery that BoroCop stopped while holding a bag full of baby supplies in one hand.

INJURY UPDATE - going home for a while to be with his newborn. 3-4 weeks maybe.

Hometown discount pending.

Mark Borowiecki was injured as the play developed as he collided near the Senators bench and hobbled off the ice.

Smith said there was no fracture, but that Borowiecki would likely be "out some time." The team expects to have a better idea Friday of what they’re dealing with

Usually 4-6 weeks, and with him being a UFA at year end I'd say he definitely plays again this year (unless the Sens offer an acceptable extension to him but I doubt that)
Why though? No point in playing if the Sens sign him and if they don't why would he want to risk his ankle for his new potential employer and playing like garbage? There's literally no upside to playing again unless he can suite up for a playoff team which is basically an impossibility at this point.

To show he's recovered from the injury for other potential teams? He's also not the type of guy to just sit out if he's healthy enough to play.

If it is a high ankle sprain, it'll take months to fully recover. He could potentially play on it some time towards the end of the year but he won't have full function or be free of pain. Think of Kyle Turris a few years ago. He won't help his cause playing through it. Best to just recover and let the doctors assess him in the summer.

Dang it. Was really hoping he gets traded. No chance of that now.

It's hilarious that this injury is the best thing that could happen for his career.

If he had gotten traded he would have joined a good team where he most likely gets bounced around as a healthy scratch and ultimately gets taken over by a young player and is soon out of the league.

Over here though, he's a core player, can be the worst player on the roster but is still a regular. Given a letter and is a contender for the captaincy. A fan favourite among some locals.

Boro has found a niche here that he does not have on any other team in the league.
