Career high 64pt Mark Stone is a $7M player?

This isn't 2007, the salary cap has gone up substantially. Stone is an elite two way player who has put up a roughly 70 point per 82 game pace since his first full season in the NHL with a career high of a roughly 88 point per 82 game pace last season. Combine that with his top level play away from the puck, and how is that not at least a 7M player?

7 mil is easily a fair deal as a long term contract for him so 9 mil ask is reasonable as well. The teams are anything but shy to lowball these guys with ridiculous offers, the fair thing is to ask for just as ridiculous bloated deals.

Jesus the mob is already out. I'm not sure why people are asking about Tom Wilson as if I've ever in any way whatsoever defended that contract. It's terrible. Other guys being overpaid doesn't mean someone else isn't overpaid. Tyler Johnson, Alex Killorn, Ryan Callahan at the minimum are overpaid in TB.

Doesn't mean no one else is. Just means GMs like to overpay.

One guy being overpaid doesn't mean someone else is actually that player. Kane isn't a $7M player and neither is Stone.
Stone will easily be worth 7 mil in 3 years so if he's signing long term he will easily get 7. Look at the long term deals, how ridiculously underpaid some of these guys seem at the end of it.
