Kruger is good at 1 thing .... winning face offs ..... oh wait .... advanced stat people dont believe winning face offs mean anything .... he also can win a face off... skate toward the blue line and dump the puck in and GET off the ice .... helps your advanced stats ... lets call him Mr Corsi.

He Sux .... weakest player on his skates in the league ... spare part that will be replaced after next year

offense ? whats offense?

Whatever little offensive ability Kruger possessed was coached out of him by Quenneville...

I don't really care about his faceoff prowess. If you care about faceoffs, great, you should be glad he's back.

I care about the fact that he can match-up against top 6 competition with heavy dzone starts and consistently flip the ice, so that our top 9 can go to work with easier matchups and maximize their offensive output. The team needs somebody besides Toews that can do it, and Q trusts to do it (for as long as he's here, anyway). It doesn't work having 2 guys on the entire roster that can find the Dzone without a map, and putting them both on the top line.

We tried the old-timey useless 4th line strategy last season. It didn't go well. EVERYBODY's production dropped, and in it's place you got a barely marginal uptick in production from a 4th line that barely played. Hurray.

I don't know if Kruger can still go at the hero level he could before. Remains to be seen. If he can't, it's only one year.

Honestly, aside from the acronym, a Kunitz-Kruger-Kampf shutdown line sounds pretty good on paper. There's just no chance Q keeps Kunitz out of the top 6.

He has to be healthy though, if he isn't then he has the potential to hurt the team when he is on the ice.

True, but you could attach that caveat to almost any player.

I understand what you're saying given his recent injury history though.

Next to Toews, Kruger was the most polarizing player in 2016 and 2017. After Kruger left, we started picking on Seabrook ... soon followed by Saad.

Jusf a refresher: Kruger topics:

* His contract
* His hand injury
* His face off problems
* His advanced stats vs. counting stats
* His inability to shoot ... like literally
* Q's infautation with Kruger
* Elite 4C status
* His perceived importance on the penalty kill
Have you even seen the most Kruger topic from the past?
Kruger vs Pirri and Kruger should be on line 2, more offensive role. Back when he wasn't a Defensiv specialist.

Holy shit but having him back makes me really happy and gets up my interest big time.

Personally I think he will hurt the team even if he is healthy. One would think hawk fans would have learned by now that bringing back ex-hawks is a disaster every time.

if Kunitz is in the top 9 (let alone the top 6 as you suggest) on a regular basis within the first 20 games of the season that should be enough for Rocky to enact the changes he stated would happen in the press conference about a month ago.

Kunitz has absolutely no business being in the top 9 and should be nothing more than the extra forward that spends half the season in the press box

if the hawks want a KKK checking line to free up Toews to regain some resemblance of respect and be part of a decent second or third line they can no do so cause Kahun-Kruger-Kampf would likely be the best checking line in the NHL.

That might be the case ... but it wasn't the posts 2-3 years ago. Ask JD ... he was constantly playing "300 Spartans" on this board protecting the legacy of Kruger. Did you miss why he was traded to the Golden Knights? It wasn't because he couldn't fit in the 2nd line before Brandon Pirri. When was that? 2012? 2013? A lot changed in 6 years. Ask Toews.

I was that Spartan in 2011 :laugh:
I follow Kruger since his Djurgarden days and I'm 100% the most happy with bringing him back.
Kruger and his play was the most talked about topic for 5 years. What a great time if your biggest worries were Kruger and the #6/7 D.

Kruger is fine. I just don't like his contract. Thankfully, it's expiring ... so no biggie.

No. Kunitz is well past his prime and is not at all the player he was. But, he is not bad. he is more adept a scorer than is a typical 4th liner and is even OK as an occasional 3rd liner. He is no Scuderi. Again, I would not expect much, but at a 1M cost he was at least a decent purchase and maybe even a modestly good one.

Chayka revealed during a conference call Thursday that Kruger played the 2017-18 season with a sports hernia injury that required surgery last month."You take (the injury) into consideration, but at the same time you think he got a repair done (where) the recovery is pretty straightforward," Chayka said, per the Arizona Republic. "We think that’ll get the jump back in his skate and it’ll be a real useful and helpful piece to our lineup."

Funny how the first 3 pages of this thread was everyone saying No, and then he ends up here :laugh:
I didn't expect him to come back either.

A lot of people here whine incessantly about him in game threads, like he is anywhere near our biggest problem.

Meh, he's been fine. Not as good as most of his years with us, but there are worse 4th line centers than him.

Don't think many will miss him after this season though (admittedly I could see him re-signed if he is willing to go for about a million and I'd be okay with that).

Pretty much this. He's seeing 28% ZSR and despite arguably the worst linemates he's had since Bollig, still doing alright with it as far as flipping the ice.

It's probably time to hand the reigns of the role to Kampf and see if he can hack the same dungeon deployment, but if Kruger stayed on cheap as a 4th line winger or whatever, that would probably be fine.

He's been fine. A lot of posters on here are tired of him as he doesn't offer much offensively, but he's a good 4th line center. He's overpaid, but if he came back for 1-1.5 I'd be fine with it.
