I tried to put in some surprise picks because there will always be some. Enjoy!
1. Chicago – LW Patrick Kane London (OHL)
Tallon likes Turris in this spot too, but in the end he goes for the spectacular Kane who should be closer to the NHL than Turris.
2. Philadelphia – C Kyle Turris Burnaby (BCHL)
The Flyers are ecstatic to land the talented Turris. He needs to bulk up and may be several years away as a result, but he's got the chance to be such a complete player who will produce a lot.
3. Phoenix – LW James van Riemsdyk NTDP-18 (USA)
The Yotes spend time debating Voracek or van Riemsdyk. In the end, they go for JvR's upside and Rick Nash like tools over the ''safer'' Voracek. Mueller and JvR, a nice duo up front!
4. Los Angeles – D Karl Alzner Calgary (WHL)
Dean Lombardi has said he wants either a young center or a young d-man to pair with JJ. With Turris gone, he grabs the stay at home d-man Alzner who will look great with JJ.
5. Washington – RW Jakub Voracek Halifax (QMJHL)
A lot of people see Cherepanov going here, but I don’t. The Caps are a perfect spot for the playmaking Voracek with the two 2 snipping Alex's on LW.
6. Edmonton – C Sam Gagner London (OHL)
They have said they won’t pick Cherepanov at 6. So they pick Gagner, a perfect Oiler IMO. Gagner could be a bigger Andy McDonald & there’s nothing wrong with that!
7. Columbus – C Angelo Esposito Quebec (QMJHL)
In what seems like an annual rite of summer, the CBJ use a pick between 5 and 10 on a skilled forward. Esposito is a boom or bust and they hope he booms.
8. Boston – C Zach Hamill Everett (WHL)
Perhaps a bit of a surprise, but the Bruins are getting an excellent offensive player who is already strong defensively with the selection of Hamill.
9. St. Louis – LW/C Lars Eller Frolunda (SuperElite)
Shocker, but remember T.J. Oshie? The Blues have shown they will take a risk with Jarmo K running the draft. Eller could turn out to be a top player out of this draft. And Eller is Jarmo's type of player.
10. Florida – RW Alexei Cherepanov Omsk (RSL)
At some point, you HAVE to take the Cherry risk. Florida does. They have been starving for goals for a long time in FLA, how can they not pick him?
11. Carolina – Ryan McDonagh Cretin-Derham (USHS)
Carolina's elated to land this all-around high school defenceman at 11. He may take a couple of years, but McDonagh has seemingly all the tools to make it big in the NHL.
12. Montreal – Logan Couture Ottawa (OHL)
The Habs are glad to pick up Couture at 12. He's a complete hard working center with good hands, excellent smarts and a big heart. Skating is a question mark, but it was for Latendresse too.
