Bruins beat Maple Leafs
The Bruins did not bid adieu to all of their recent worries and wants Monday night, but they did brush aside the Maple Leafs, despite falling into a 2-0 deficit in the second period, despite never playing with a lead, and despite squandering a 55-gallon drum of scoring opportunities that could — emphasize could — have made for a much easier night on their road to recovery.

Milan Lucic vents frustration, finally finds net
The door to the Bruins’ bench near center ice at TD Garden swung wide open to receive Milan Lucic after he skated a scoreless power-play shift in the first period of Monday night’s 3-2 shootout victory over the Maple Leafs.

As he came off the ice, Lucic was steaming mad after missing several opportunities. So before he sat down, Lucic took out his frustrations on the door, repeatedly opening it and slamming it shut.

The door never stood a fighting chance against the agitated Lucic.

McQuaid possibly finished for rest of regular season
If it turns out to be six weeks from the date of injury, March 19, that will mean McQuaid has been lost for the remainder of the regular season (final game: April 27). General manager Peter Chiarelli, already feeling out the trade market in hopes of adding a defenseman, now has extra incentive to shore up the back line.

Among candidates out there: Ottawa’s Sergei Gonchar, Winnipeg’s Ron Hainsey, and Edmonton’s Ryan Whitney. None of those emulates McQuaid’s rugged big-man approach to the job, but all three might be able to aid the Bruins’ outlet game, advancing pucks from behind their blue line

Bruins score crucial win over Leafs
It wasn’t pretty, but the offensively challenged Bruins produced the two points for which they were desperately looking last night.

The B’s erased a two-goal deficit, then beat the Toronto Maple Leafs in the shootout for a 3-2 win at the Garden. Tyler Seguin and Patrice Bergeron scored in the shootout, and Tuukka Rask stopped Nazem Kadri and Nikolai Kulemin to nail down the much-needed victory after a 1-3 road trip.

Trade talk hot topic for Bruins
..While the Bruins coaches and players are trying to figure a way out of a scoring slump, everyone else is wondering if general manager Peter Chiarelli will land any new personnel on the trade market.

The hot name on most teams’ lists is Calgary Flames forward Jarome Iginla, and that seems more likely after Sunday reports stated he waived his no-trade clause for four teams: the Bruins, Penguins, Blackhawks and Kings. There’s no confirmation such a list exists, however.

Lucic being Milan Lucic
It would not be entirely accurate to say Milan Lucic is the most important player on the Bruins, the individual key to the success or failure of the group.

But he’s on a pretty short list of core guys who have to be in good form for this team to be a championship contender.

Daniel Paille puts energy in a new job
Daniel Paille may not have lasted in the penthouse for long, but he certainly didn’t look out of place last night during his time there.

In Claude Julien’s forward-line shakeup entering the game, the coach moved Paille to a line with Patrice Bergeron and Tyler Seguin. Though the line didn’t score with Paille on it, the forward was a constant source of energy for the Bruins.

Bruins count on Patrice Bergeron
The B’s certainly got a boost in their 3-2 shootout win, but it wasn’t the result of any line change. It was a direct result of the ever-consistent Patrice Bergeron.

The 27-year-old once again stepped up, scoring the game-tying goal with 9:24 left in regulation and adding another goal in the shootout. Bergeron, who leads the team in points (27), has been the B’s most reliable player in this lockout-shortened season.

But after the game, he gave credit to his teammates

Tired Boston Bruins dig deep
BOSTON — Shootout win propels Bruins into tie for first with Habs who are next

So did it work or not?

The Bruins clearly needed a change after a 1-3-0 road trip during which they scored only six goals. Despite a multitude of trade rumors, general manager Peter Chiarelli hadn’t acquired a scorer, so coach Claude Julien changed all his forward lines for Monday night’s game against Toronto – Round 2 of a road-home series that opened Saturday night with the Leafs holding on for 3-2 win at Air Canada Centre.

Reimer haunted by shootout?.
You know who hates shootouts? James Reimer. But if you were in his shoes I guess you couldn’t blame him. The Toronto Maple Leafs were on the verge of back-to-back wins. While it’s no fault of his own that the game went 65 minutes without a winner, here is Reimer again, faltering on his fourth attempt of the skills competition in his last seven starts in goal.

“When the hockey games count there are no shootouts†Reimer said following a 3-2 loss to the Boston Bruins. “You take it for what it is, for a goalie it really sucks to lose but that’s ok. Come playoff time we’ll be playing and it’ll be a more distinguished win or whatever you want to call it.â€

INSIDER TRADING: FRONT-RUNNERS FOR IGINLA
Out of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Boston Bruins, L.A. Kings and Chicago Blackhawks, is there a clear front-runner for who will land Jarome Iginla?

Bob McKenzie: I don't know that there is a front-runner necessarily because there are so many moving parts in terms of Iginla, Calgary and the team that they are trading with. But, I would say that Boston is the most motivated team to get Iginla.
