there's an old saying. fortune favours the bold. well, I guess we're about to find out.
Benjamin Sisko - Deep Space Nine

Alrighty.

Historical context - we have been in this situation.
Several times the Leafs have been pummeled in Game 1. (1993 vs. Detroit, 2000 vs. Ottawa, 2013 vs. Boston).
Many times the Leafs have looked like they were overwhelmed and out of place, causing us to wonder if things were just going to end up being worse.

Two of the three series - the Leafs won game 2.
(the other one, they kinda got pummeled again but they won the series anyway so alls well that ends well)

Right now we are cranky because the team looked like poop, Babcock didn't coach well, and Kadri is gone for three games. We don't know how things are going to turn out, everyone is gleefully rubbing their hands together counting us out, and things look bleak.

Let's not bend. Let's not break.

The Leafs have won games without their best player. Missing Kadri, playoff games or not, shouldn't phase this group. They've already been through worse.

People have counted out this team since day one two years ago. All this team has done has turn around and proved everyone wrong.

Everytime the Leafs have been embarrassed - the Leafs have turned around and embarrassed teams right back.

We need to remember it is always us against the world. We need to remember that this team always likes to take the road less travelled and make life interesting(ly stressful) for us. It's what is so frustratingly awesome about this team.

This team has Honour, Courage and Pride.

This team is going to shock the spit out of the TD Gardens.
This team is going to show Boston, that they are not going to be an easy out
This team is going to come back to Toronto with the series tied 1-1.
This team is gonna win, damnit..

Fortune Favours the Bold.
The Leafs are nothing if not Bold.

GO LEAFS GO!

Kadri is a great player, but if the Leafs can't win without him they deserve to lose. Good teams are devastated when they lose a key player. Great teams, Stanley Cup contending teams learn to overcome it. This team has been praised by fans and the media for having depth up front. Now is the time to prove it.

Just hope he plays the big 3 more this game. Need them out there as much as possible.
Hopefully that'll be one of the benefits of Leo playing on that top line - Whether people like it or not, Babs trusts him with tough assignments, and if the B's want their best up against our best, putting the Matthews line out for 20 minutes instead of 15 should be beneficial for both our stars and our depth.

Having said that, I agree with something Daisy said earlier: Matthews and Nylander also need to be better - Just giving them extra time won't be enough if they're not at 100%

If we are at 2-2 after 4, I feel we'll win the series.

Just Babcock is doing the complete opposite of what I think is needed. We were IMO slightly the better team after 2 because of focusing on using our skill, then we decided to go and play physical and lost control. IMO if you're going to try to make a shut down line out of the Matthews line it should be a simple swap of Nylander to 2C & Kapanen to 1RW. (So Hyman-Matthews-Kapanen, Marleau-Nylander-Marner) Kapanen and Hyman can forecheck like hell, are speed demons, while being awesome 2 way players. Komarov? He just guarantees that there will be no offensive pressure in their zone in the 18 minutes that line will play, and I f***ing hate the idea that playing defense for those 18 minutes is better than trying to keep it in their zone so that we don't have to play defense.

Pretty much a lot of my hope for this series is relying on the new and way improved 4th line scoring at least 1 goal in an easy af match up next game, and Babcock realizing that line is dominant enough to bench Komarov once Kadri returns.

Let's hope your GDT gives the boys some good juju

All I ask is that the boys show up and give everything they've got
Not melting down if things aren't going there way would be nice as well

I'm believe in this team. We have seen this team rebound from a bad game and we CAN outplay Boston. Lets learn from game 1 and take the series in 5.

One game in, and the Leafs get exposed.

It is not even the defense, except for Hainsey, but he's just old and tired.

Toronto is a soft team.

The JVR - Bozak - Brown line I thought was good, but not good enough to make a big difference. Age has finally caught up to those two Leafs veterans.

Matthews must be the best player for the Leafs in order for them to have a chance to win. Babcock will still go head to head Bergeron versus Matthews. You want to be the best, you beat the best. You do not ask to be sheltered. Matthews is 6'4" and 240 pounds. When the game is going the way it was in game 1, you have to use your 6'4" 240 pounds to maximum effect. Look at Kadri. He plays hard.

It does not sit well from someone like Brendan Shanahan to see his team play like that in game 1, who played the game a certain way.

That's why the entire season, it was always about Martin, and Levio, let them play. When you get pushed around, you do not win, and will not win in series. Never seen it happen.

If they do not want to get pushed around, the Leafs better hit back like Kadri, or score a goal. The Leafs only average 1 goal per game the last three playoffs games they played.

This team could be in trouble. Tomorrow is a much bigger game than it should be. They have to respond.

You know what, I am not sure if they will. Hope they do. Then keep doing it. Not sure if they will. Not sure if they keep doing it.

Then how big is he really?

Just a squirt like Marner? Even Marner went into the dirty areas. Marner has heart.

Matthews can wipe people out if he wanted to. He has to do it. His own team will respond if he starts throwing his 6'4" 240 pounds body around. He has to make space for himself.
