Luke Gazdic seems to be what we have needed for some time. He is adding toughness and he can skate a little bit. MacT said in his press conference that 4th liners should be scoring threats at least marginally to keep their spots. At this point Gazdic is keeping his spot.

I want to see him and Smack skate together against Vancouver later in the season and take care of the business.

It's just too bad that MacT got Smac in the first place. Total kneejerk reaction, especially considering we got a superior deterrent for free and now we have no roster spots.

Loving Gazdic so far, looks like a solid 4th liner so far. Not only can he beat the tar out of guys (solid fight tonight), he is somewhat of a scoring threat too, and he can skate decently.

Maybe I shouldn't be so hard on MacTavish. Some of his moves seem utterly boneheaded, but other ones like picking up Gazdic, Perron, Gordon, Ference and Belov all look pretty great so far.

Lets wait and see. I don't think one fluke goal makes Gazdic a scoring threat.

Looks like a strong middle weight though.

    240lbs. = middleweight?

I missed watching him tonight except for the goal and his fight in the highlights, he got things done tonight in a limited amount of time.

Honestly that's all you need to see to give him a thumbs up.

A guy that played 5 minutes did the one thing I've been yelling at this team to do for years and what happened the puck takes a bounce off a stick and goes in.

A 5 minute a night guy can figure this out why can't others? Although judging by last night shots weren't an issue.

We'll see if he's the answer in that spot but he certainly can play the game a lot better than Mac. I can't see how Mac stays with the big team when he comes back from injury unless Eager is so bad they have no choice but to get rid of him instead. My guess is Mac goes on waivers though, PIT takes him back, and the Oilers are happy to have one less contract on the books.

I thought Gaz played with alot of energy. So did the rest of the 4th line, they skated hard, fore checked well and put some pucks on net. Acton was good in the dot. To me if our 4th line can play like that all season the bottom 6 wont be as bad as some expected.

I have seen Gazdics weight listed at anywhere from 225lbs to 240lbs.

For example at edmontonoilers.com Linus Omark is listed at 5'10" and 187lbs...which is absolute nonsense.

TSN and the Hockey News list Gazdic at 228lbs. ESPN has him at 233lbs.

Edmontonoilers.com is rarely right so who knows what his weight really is.
    Somewhere between 225lbs and 240lbs.

In any event he looks like twice the hockey player MacIntyre is...at least Gazdic can skate and make a pass.

This, as much as I hate Acton. He at least did something right last game. Smyth literally makes every player on the ice with him worse.

Smyth is this year's Belanger. Makes anybody look bad whoever plays on a line with him.

In his first game as an Oiler, Gozdic looked better than Brown ever has.

Tougher then Eager and more skilled than Mac. Exactly what we needed.

Happy Mike Brown doesn't have to act like a heavy weight and can fight in his league now.

He has the size and strength to do well against Matt Kassian, that is not a middleweight. Kassian is very strong and has good balance and Gazdic can hang with him. I'd be very surprised if he was under 235lbs.

Bingo, now Brown can play his game without having to face the Magrattan's of the world.

i'm not over the moon about this player, and can see him (easily) fall from fan's grace as the year goes on. people saying he's a great skater, need to look again... skates a lot like ryan jones. i see him occupying a bottom rung and rotating in every 2-3 games.

Looked like a Stortini that can actually chuck 'em. Good bet for a rotating press box player, 13/14 role. I'm okay with it if it keeps MacIntyre off the active roster.

He can skate, hit and fight. Not much more to see out of a 5 minute player. There will be times he misses hits resulting in the puck going the other way, there will be times where he makes a bad move with the puck. But the fact that he can fight and skate is all we could ask out of him at this point. If continues to grow great, but if he doesn't there is a spot for him anyway.

Don't have to tell me, I liked the pick up... but people need to temper expectations after a good game.. Mike Brown's first few games were very similar and people loved him. He isn't going to score every game and he probably wont even fight every game.. but i'm a big believer in needing those guys to succeed

Not at all. I think Brown played maybe 1 or 2 games with any enthusiasm and I remember him quickly having some bad games here. Not that I ever liked the pickup in any case.

Gazdik is night and day better player, and enforcer, than Mike Brown. Gazdik can actually in the game and the ring. I don't think much of Browns ability in either.

Gadzic was noticeable every time he was on the ice. If he can play 5-8 minutes each night like he did last night, that would be the perfect 4th line player. Early still, but it is a ray of hope for some toughness with a bit of hockey ability mixed in.
