First one:

Second:
First is definitely diving.

Second one looked like diving last night in real time, as I thought that it was Bolland's stick that made him fall over, but now that I've seen this it's more of a collision between two players. Bolland comes very close to tripping Malkin with the skates initially, but Malkin steps on Bolland's skate when he's going past after that and that's what made him fall over. Not exactly tripping on Bolland's part, hard to call in real time though.

Looks like Bolland's skate hits Malkin's skate.

The first one is a dive.

I like Malkin. I have no stake in making him look bad.

The first one was a bald faced dive.

the second one he was tripped but he actually dove afterwords. I cant tell if he is diving to maintain possession of the puck or to embellish.

Second one was a weak call to me. Maybe the Ref had it out for him

I love how people analyze a gif and say, yep definitely this or definitely that.. First off, watch the whole game. Then you might come to conclusion that the ice was soft. In fact, the puck was rolling a lot and there were a lot guys losing their edge that night. Not sure if that played a factor in Malkin going down easy, but it doesn't change the fact that the majority of the game he was not making an effort to stay on his skates.

First a dive

Can see how at full speed the refs call embilishment. ..but it looks clear on slow mo that rheir was skate to skate contact and pretty easy to see anyone going down there

1st call was not embellishment...it was unsportsmanlike conduct for getting in the face of the dude that tripped him.

The actual embellishment call was an absolute joke...Malkin doesn't dive

Malkin dives, neither of those may have been dives(I think the first one was), but I have seen Malkin dive countless times.

Both blatant dives, so glad the league is monitoring this crap. This is the last thing we need in our sport.

Everyone falls whens there skate hits the side of another players when going at a fast speed, there skate basically instantly stops while the rest of there body doesn't meaning they fall over. Obviously you have never skated in your life if the first is a blatant dive to you.

Looks like he got tripped on the second one. Put himself in an easy position for it to happen.

Both complete dives.

Fine his ass and embarrass him. If you want to ruin the interigity of the sport Malkin go to Russia.

The tears in this thread are hilarious. The 1st call was borderline and the 2nd was complete bogus. It's hilarious how upset people are getting about this. Malkin needs to return to Russia so he doesn't ruin the integrity of the game? What?

Even if you happen to think the second is a blatant dive and there was no contact, I still don't see how you call both the embellishment and the tripping penalty on it. Because either he was tripped, in which case there is no embellishment, or he wasn't, in which case you do not call the trip. How hard is that?

Tripping over a trip or jerking your body in reaction to a hook is not ****ing embellishment. Clutching your head and acting like you are about to expire, sure, but refs will call anything these days.

Damn you caught me, I've only been playing hockey for the last 18 years and played just yesterday morning, I wish someone would teach me how to skate. In all honesty though the second one I could see where he might have lost his footing but he made no effort whatsoever to regain his footing or skate through the contact, his legs just gave out from under him and collapsed.

I don't mind the refs being a little aggressive with handing out diving penalties. It's been a league wide problem for years(decades in Montreal).

This push back by the officials to clean it up is long overdue. I think it's a good thing.

I have no idea why people think Malkin would dive while carrying the puck through the neutral zone on a power play. Seems like one of the worst times to dive/embellish.

The first one was questionable, but I'm fine with the call either way. The second one was unbelievably bad, and I don't think that gif does it justice. It was a bad call watching it in real time, and it's a bad call watching it in slow motion.

These refs were missing a ton of the nasty stuff (like multiple slashes to Crosby's wrists, Mitchell swinging a helmet around like an idiot), and they called a lot of ticky tack stuff against both teams. It was a very poor showing.

I expect the Monday rematch to be a **** show.

Looks like he's trying to sell it in the second one. Good call though he did get tripped.

the second one was terrible. they only called that because it would have been a 5 on 3... it seems the only thing the refs are trying to do is even up things.
