3 point night against the leafs giving him 12 points in 6 games so far, just on fire. Picking up right where he left off last season.

    Can he challenge McJesus?

Maybe. But only Because Malkin isn't a walking one man team and has a good PP to get points on.

McDavid may just outscore everyone despite no help at all. Really amazing, reminds me of 2011 Crosby during that 25 game point streak. Just so far above everyone else.

Not sure which was more impreesive, Peak 2011 Crosby or what we are seeing from McDavid. He might just will his team to a playoff spot.

If Malkin stays healthy he is basically guaranteed to challenge for it. Hes just a flat out pyscho...

I wouldnt even be surprised, hes a top 4 player in my mind while healthy. When he gets starts heating up man, Its scary

Also, my phone is at 71% battery while I type this....When Evgeni score, he's Malkin noise.

He'll blow Crosby out of the water again this year. But in fairness Crosby was significantly better then malkin in the po

As long as he stays healthy he'll be in the running. The hard part is staying healthy for him.

Also just want to say that Malkin's hockey sense/iq is seriously underrated. His skating is quite a bit worse than it used to be and he isn't able to skate through teams like he used to but he's really adapted to being a more opportunistic finisher as he's gotten older.

One factor being that Malkin got injured in the Philly series and was clearly hampered when coming back, but otherwise in-arguably true.

I honestly don't see anyone threatening McD if he stays healthy though, not even Malkin if he gets hot which I have otherwise always thought was just about the most dominant player in the world.
McDavid plays 4 more minutes a night that Geno nowadays and beyond that I don't think there's doubt he is the best player in the game at this point. 11 points on 13 Edmonton goals is just sick, sick, sick.

Oilers PP is top five atm. Mcdavid already has 25% of the PP points he had all last season.:laugh:

Does it mean, Edmonton is ready to trade Draisaitl for nothing? I mean, he's "no help at all" anyway, for $7.8M/year. That's a lot of money for "no help at all". They should be happy to get rid of him.

This is what Eller was talking about and Leafs fans just got offended. There's other good players in the league Leafs.

    Home Page:
Crosby was in on 53% of his team's goals,OV was in on 44% of his team;s goals.

Crosby had more than 100% more points then the next leading scorer on his team, OV had three or four players within that range.

Of course Crosby was the much better 2-way player too.

Malkin, Crosby - still both can 100% put together a Ross worthy season. I don't know that either will be consistent enough all year to do so - but its absolutely within their ability to do so
Mackinnon, Kucherov and maybe Matthews could also be dark horses.

So the answer to the question is absolutely - he can challenge McDavid. One of the very, very few who is a realistic challenger. McDavid is obviousl still favorite tho

He's definitely in that upper tier, but McDavid seems to have created some separation from the rest. I'm not sure if it helps or hurts his numbers that there's so little else on that team. The entire offense is running through this guy in Edmonton, and as the team craters, it ensures he gets his points. His ice time is already going through the roof. McDavid's ice time is a full 1:07 ahead of the next highest NHL forward in ATOI. It's nuts. While it's early, I wouldn't bet against a healthy McDavid who is sent over the boards as often as he is this year.

So far he's been with Hagelin and Kessel. Nobody was really expecting that combo to stick (it gets tried, goes dry, gets broken up) but given how hot they've been so far and their defensive performance against Toronto, maybe they stick a while longer. If that it does stick and stays hot, that'd go a long way to Geno being in with a shout - it unsurprisingly scores like mad when hot.

The usual bending... No help at all is a huge overstatement. Just because the team sucks in the standings doesn't mean McDavid is the only capable forwatd there.

lol this is a thread if it's like, Matthews, or Aho, or Rantanen... this is Evgeni Malkin. He's won it twice. He's been top-5 in points per game seven times. Yes, OP. Evgeni Malkin might win the Art Ross. Probably like 20 guys have a not-nothing chance if Connor gets hurt, Malkin is one of a very small number who could do it if he's healthy.

I mean, he's had Ty Rattie on his line. I've harped a lot on "Chris Kunitz was actually very good" from the days of "Sid has no help," so I can't discount RNH, but the Oilers really, really suck. He had points on their first nine goals of the year, as everyone on Earth knows by now.

Based on the usual HF habit to feast on small sample sizes - Malkin wil tear down the pillars of the world. In one game he's had 3pts and Auston the Great 0pts. Malkin is the Messiah.

Seriously, let's wait till January maybe.

It's crazy how he's created at least one highlight goal by himself in every game of the season so far. He's taxed to do everything with monstrous ice time, but he's also not getting any freebie points where he's not the one driving the play.

Hard to tell how different he'd score with better support and less ice time. But, to be fair, he's so much better at 5vs5 than rest of the league, that he would be the main offensive driver in any team or any line.
