Hey guys,

I noticed that Madaisky, a defenseman, is leading our AHL team Springfield in points. He is only 22 and in his second season in the AHL. He has 14 points in 18 games. Has anyone gotten a chance to see Springfield play?

How does Madaisky look, and how are they using him? Is he physical and could you see him making the jump to the NHL at any time soon?

Probably not any time soon. It seems the Jackets are looking for experienced D-men right now as they try to dig themselves out of the hole they are in. I would not be surprised if it is at least 2 more seasons before he makes it to the big club.

What kind of recognition do you think he needs? He's under contract, and if he's really that good he'll force his way onto the Jackets soon enough.

Can you describe his game to me? A point per game for a defender in the AHL is a good sign, but plenty of guys (Justin Schultz, Tim Erixon, T. J. Brennan, etc...) have done it and it doesn't tell you a lot about how they'll play in the NHL.

I have no idea what this means. Flowers? Fruit basket? Trophy? Meet and greet?

I mean, yay, happy for the guy, but there's no way he's ready for an NHL call-up - which is what I assume you mean. He looked quite a bit out of place in the preseason. Let him grow and if he keeps playing the way he is, he'll earn a good look.

Kind of like Erixon but has better scoring skills.

I think he's ready for a call up he's had four goals in the past two games, has the most goals for defenseman in the league, most points on the team, respected for his team chemistry by the players I've talked to. Plays around 25 min a game, already .looking as an all star selection, stops pucks in front of the net. I agree he really doesn't deserve to be called up. Know your stuff before you call the shots buddy.....

I will gently remind you about three letters: A. H. L.

I'm happy for the kid, but let's not get carried away. CBJ have enough problems without breaking in yet another rookie. It's not doing Madaisky any favors bringing him up now either. Let him enjoy success in the A, build confidence, and learn to be a pro. It wasn't that long ago that he had to be sent to the east coast league just to get some playing time.

Let's follow your thought to it's conclusion. Who does he replace?

Johnson, Prout, Wiz, Savard, Leopold, Connauton, Erixon. And let's not forget that JD says Murray is really close as well.

Is it really a reward to sit in the press box?

I'd say he'd take Erixon's spot if anything. I'd say he would be at great value in a trade.

Fair enough, I guess, but I would think Madaisky would need a lot more seasoning than a nice hot streak to give him tons of value for any trade that helps the organization. I just don't see what's wrong with him developing and learning.

If you meant trade Erixon, I don't know...I just don't see it happening at this point. Maybe eventually, I guess, but I wouldn't think Madaisky or his nice run right now would have any effect on Jarmo or any other GM unless they operate like fantasy owners.

Erixon hasn't played the last couple games, watching an NHL game vs playing in the AHL is not better. Lets not forget what Erixon did last year in the AHL and this year in the NHL he's just been alright but with the 2 new guys and Prout becoming half of the hockey worlds favorite player overnight he's been sitting.

Madaisky has had two injury plagued seasons (including a broken wrist that kept him out for most of a season) and needs to play in the AHL before he's ready to be called up. WHL fans thought he had the potential to be a huge steal for the Jackets, but his transition to the pro hockey was a bit rocky with all the injuries.

It's one thing for a rookie to get called up when a team has to fill an injury and the rookie can play with a stable group of veterans, it's another when there's a very young defensive corps who are already shaky. But it's good to see that Madaisky is fulfilling his potential. The Jackets need defensive depth, and hopefully later this season or next season Madaisky will be ready to make the jump to playing in some NHL games as a call-up.

I think between him Hetherington and Reilly were gonna have some really good defenders coming into the system over the next 3 years

Whenever I played GM mode on NHL 14, some team would always offer up a 1st round pick for Madaisky who was still a CHL product. Now I know why...:sarcasm:

Trying to understand you statement man. You say the organization needs to recognize him but then in a later post you agree with another poster saying he shouldnt be called up? Im just trying to understand, how should the CBJ recognize him in your opinion?

Not arguing man, just trying to understand? Are you looking for like a write up on CBJ site or a newspaper article or something? As long as he continues playing like this, he will get his recognition. Remember Andy Delmore? Dude was unstoppable in the AHL.

He has 8-15-23 in 28 games and is +11. 23 points is good for 3rd highest scoring defensemen in the AHL, 17th overall. He leads Springfield in points and has also added 18 PIM.

He's developed a great shot and seems to have a good eye for the game offensively however he is a defensive liability.

Being a defensive liability do you see him making the Blue Jackets anytime soon?

I wouldn't think so. Right now his role would have to be with limited protected minutes and power play specialist. Larson and now Bednar have a pretty good defensive system and it seems like he hasn't exactly bought into it yet.

Realistically he's not even halfway into his second year so he still has time to develop but I would put him at least a year out. His offense has taken a total 180 from what he looked like last year so if he can make that defensive jump for next year we will both have happy teams.

I don't see him on the jackets before Reilly if we sign him in 2015, as many have said he is ready for pros going on his second year in a row. But we shall see.
