Pretty impressive when you consider the Devils teams that have been iced in front of him with one of their worst coaches in their short history at the helm. MacKenzie turns 24 December 9th and will very likely start 50+ next season barring injury as the Devils have no reliable backup.

Most goalies who have a long enough career as a start end up being considered top 10 at some stage of it.

I don’t think “top-10” goaltenders exist anymore. You have a couple of elite goalies, then a bunch of guys who are good, and a bunch of guys who are not good. The good guys could flip with the not good guys in any given season.

I think he’ll be in the good bunch.

I think they do exist (top-10 goalies) but I agree it hasn't seemed it lately. I think there is/has been a major transition in goaltending talent the last 5-6 years and were starting to see the next big group form (Blackwood, CBJ goalies, Hart, Shestyorkin, Sorokin, Samsonov, and thats just one DIVISION). Also I think the amount of good goaltenders is going up and there will be more elite goalies than before at once - this is because scouting for goaltenders has vastly improved since the turn of the century - now its starting to become much more predictive, thought still not to the extent of skaters.

Not consistently. Middle of the league starter for his career, and he'll probably have a few seasons as top 10.

His AHL teams were pretty bad though.

He might get some top-10 seasons, but I don't see him ever being considered a bona fide top 10 goalie.

are all locked in as the top 10 goalies right now. Markstrom, Lehner and a few others are right on the outside looking in.

Blackwood is not a top 10 goalie entering next season, who the hell knows what the future may bring and it is a pointless exercise to try and project which goalies will come and go.

Even better than HF God Cory Schneider? I think Blackwood will enter the top 10 at least in one season. The Metro will be insane with Hart, Blackwood, Shesterkin, Sorokin, maybe Samsonov, maybe Jarry, Korpisalo/Elvis.

Looking at Corey Schwab and he had some crazy numbers (when they actually decided to play him instead of Brodeur), but to only have 7 wins in those 24 games played is crazy with the 1.54GAA and .929 SVP.

In the 10-15 range in a year or 2. But don't think he ever cracks the top 10 (perhaps once in a career year). But who knows with goalies.

In all seriousness the Devils being bad longer is no shocker considering they were a continual contender from 95-2005 and then still a playoff team until 2012 - meanwhile the Rangers have just been shuffling chairs on the Titanic for two decades
