Why are there so many freaking Finnish player threads for average prospects? It becomes a bit too much after a certain point....
Anybody know why he is still playing in Finnish a-juniors?(44 points in 31 games) Is he doing military service or what? If he is planning to play in NCAA, seems like the logical move would've been to play in USHL this season.
He is not good enough to play in Liiga. Ilves is playing 6 A-juniors and they are one of the worst teams in Liiga and he still isn't the next one making the team.
Just signed his elc with the bruins. https://www.nhl.com/bruins/news/bruins-sign-joona-koppanen-to-entry-level-contract/c-288763258
Anyone have any updates on the end of his season?
Koppanen had good season in Ilves U20 team.
He scored 54 points ( 23 goals and 31 assists 1,42 PPG) in 38 regular season games.
In 6 playoff games Koppanen scored 6 points ( 2 goals and 4 assists 1,00 PPG).
Koppanen hasn't signed liiga contract with Tampereen Ilves FEL team.
That makes him available to play next season in NCAA or CHL.
He can't play in the NCAA now that he's on an entry level contract.
I wrote this to finnprospects.com around a month ago:Just signed his elc with the bruins. https://www.nhl.com/bruins/news/bruins-sign-joona-koppanen-to-entry-level-contract/c-288763258

https://finnprospects.com/player/joona-koppanen/Big and strong center scored two goals in a defeat against Ässät in U20 league quarterfinals. Koppanen looked like a man among boys and he seems like ready for pro game.
Center has excelled at defensive game before but he has also been able to produce a lot of offense this season thanks to his high hockey IQ. While Koppanen is not the flashiest player on ice and he does not have the craftiest hands, he can play efficient passing game and he has above average wrist shot. His skating looks clumsy at times but that area has taken leaps forward this season and his top speed is one of the best in the league already.
Also very unnecessary thread.
Will stay in Finland and play in Liiga next season

Seems kinda weird that he planned going the NCAA route for years and suddenly decided he wants to stay in Finland. He could've played in Liiga for the past two seasons already.
It is weird. I wonder what are his reasons.
